If you have ever played in sports, or fishing, or racing, or when you go to work out at the gym. You typically get dressed for it. When you are ready in your uniform and have those shoes on, you feel prepared, ready and confident. Side note - whenever I put on new shoes I feel like I run faster, does anyone else ever feel that way?
Back in the day I played baseball, Coach called my house and chose me for His Baseball team, chose me as his catcher, we won every single little league game that year. After Baseball season, my baseball coach asked me to join his new basketball team. So, I joined the basketball team, I didn’t play basketball, I played baseball! The first game was the very next day! I had never played the sport, i didn’t know what to do, I didn’t have a uniform or shoes to play the game.
So the next morning I put on my baseball cap, I hop on my bicycle, ride down to the courts, I'm wearing clothes that i would wear on a regular day. I find my coach, he gives me a uniform, I put it on. I am wearing this tank top and short shorts that basketball players wear. My shoes, however are hush puppies. If you don’t know what those are, google them - Hush puppy, shoes circa 1976. I couldn’t afford to buy basketball shoes. I walked on to the court and felt so out of place and not ready to play this game, I was so stressed out because I just felt lost on what to do! I didn’t look the part , the shoes I was wearing made the most noise on the court and to top it all off I had hat hair!
My teammates give me a very high synopsis of the game, the whole time laughing at me. When it was time to rest on the bench. Coach and his wife walk up to me and ask me where my shoes were. I told him I didn’t have any, His wife pats me on my hat hair and said “let go get some”.
She takes me to the local shoe store and buys me the most expensive pair on the rack. As we are driving back to the courts, I put them on and I feel like I knew how to play basketball. I had so much confidence and prepared to play my first Basketball game. Did you nknow that in Basketball they switch side at Hafltime? I didn’t...I scored for the other team on the first basket of the second half, ...but I made the shot!
Colossians 3:12-15
-Clothe yourselves therefore, as God’s own chosen ones (His own picked representatives), [who are] purified and holy and well-beloved
-And above all these [put on] love and enfold yourselves with the bond of perfectness [which binds everything together completely in ideal harmony].
And let the peace (soul harmony which comes) from Christ rule (act as umpire continually) in your hearts [deciding and settling with finality all questions that arise in your minds, in that peaceful state] to which as [members of Christ’s] one body you were also called [to live]. And be thankful (appreciative), [giving praise to God always].
Today on your Friday Drive, take some time to clothe yourself, before you walk into your home, or face a situation or start your day. Take a moment and talk to your heavenly Father. Spiritually, emotionally, thoughtfully dress yourself, nobody else is going to do it for you. My Coaches wife bought me those shoes, I had to put them on. As a matter of fact, I wore them everyday that season on and off the court. But I had to put them on to understand I was ready, chosen, and confident. It allows him to umpire your heart, It will prepare you to listen and act at His word. You will be able to face things with His Peace. He’ll help you see what to be thankful for, even when it’s difficult.
Be Blessed, Know God is for you
