Superbowl Sunday

Notes
Transcript
Super Bowl Sunday / Only one team can be world champions
Every NFL team at the beginning of the season has only one goal in mind. Win the Super Bowl!
As Christ follower, Coach Jesus gave us one goal.
Matthew 28:18–20 NIV
18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Vs. 19: Go and make disciples of all nations
Go: As you go about your life / work
Make disciples: When a rabbi asked you to come follow me, it meant learn my ways of walking with God. It also means apprentice.
In most churches, the congregation pays the pastor to preach, win the lost, and build up the saved—while the church members function as cheerleaders (if they are enthusiastic) or spectators. - This verse is calling all Christ followers to get out of the stands at the Super Bowl, put on their pads, get on the field.
The priesthood of all believers is the idea that all believers in Christ are priests in their own right. This means that believers are called to:
Make spiritual sacrifices / Proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ / Participate in worship
All Nations: this can seem overwhelming
Population size of:
World: 8.025 billion / 2.4 billion declare they are Christians
North America: 386.61 million
America: 334.9 million
California: 38.9 million
Riverside County: 2.4 million
Riverside: 318,858 / 55% or 175,371 designated as “None” - no religious affiliation
“Aiming for everyone gets you no one.” - Tom Mercer
