The Power of God's Word vs. Human Effort
Bible Passage: Isaiah 55:10–11, Isaiah 45:9
Bible Passage: Isaiah 55:10–11, Isaiah 45:9
Isaiah articulates the supremacy and effectiveness of God's Word in accomplishing His purposes, contrasting it with human arrogance and reliance on personal wisdom and speech.
Today there are two ideas in the the church that run parallel with each other, but are in reality diametrically opposed. Is there power in Gods word or power in our words?
“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.
If we could change our own lives by the power of our own thought and our own words, we would be giving ourselves the credit and the praise and not God. What we have here is human wisdom versus divine revelation.
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Jesus is the ultimate Word made flesh, fulfilling all the promises of God. Just as God's spoken Word brings about creation and transformation, Christ embodies the truth that saves and redeems.
We are talking about faith in a person, not a thing. Faith is more than a concept, its rooted in relationship.
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
True faith finds strength not in our own words or understanding, but in the living Word of God that never fails to accomplish His will.
For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us—by me, Silvanus, and Timothy—was not Yes and No, but in Him was Yes. For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.
Every Promise will come to pass. Not one will fail.
Not one word of all the good promises that the Lord had made to the house of Israel had failed; all came to pass.
2. Presumption versus Providence
2. Presumption versus Providence
“Woe to him who strives with him who formed him, a pot among earthen pots! Does the clay say to him who forms it, ‘What are you making?’ or ‘Your work has no handles’?
We can’t control God, God controls us. I fear that we have taken faith and turned it into something it is not. We have thought that if we could believe strong enough, we could manipulate God into doing something for us.
If we have learned faith along these lines then we have learned faith incorrectly.
We don’t use faith to get what we want, we have faith to do Gods will.
Our understanding is limited, which is why we don’t try and dictate how things should be.
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
We don’t always get what we want, a part of trusting God is accepting his sovereignty, when things don’t turn out as they thought they would.
If you can’t do this you will find yourself striving against God. fighting against his sovereignty. Trust him even when you can’t see.
