What does chapter 1 say about God?
What does chapter 1 say about God?
He is the creator.
He ascribes value and makes evaluations
He is personally involved in creation
Words Belong to God
Jesus/Trinity worked in Creation - “US”
15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
16 For everything was created by him, in heaven and on earth, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities— all things have been created through him and for him.
17 He is before all things, and by him all things hold together.
18 He is also the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that he might come to have first place in everything.
19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him,
20 and through him to reconcile everything to himself, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.
3 By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was made from things that are not visible.
It speaks to other religions and philosophies
Atheist - Creation was the work of God
Polytheist - There is only one God
Pantheist - God is apart from and independent from Creation
Evolutionist - The Universe was created, not random chance.
Materialist - Matter did not arise on it’s own. It was created.
Existentialist - Creation has a purpose.
What does Chapter 1 say about us and creation
We are created on Purpose - Imago Dei, and point to God.
We are accountable to the creator.
We were given a job - Authority over creation
We were made to be in community, reflecting God.
So What?
So What?
