Ephesians 1:4–6 (NKJV)
4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love,
5 having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will,
6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.
He chose us, predestined.
Doctrine of Election:
This has caused a lot of division in churches. It has caused division with pastors.
Calvinist. Those who believe that God chose who was going to be saved or not saved.
Limited Atonement. Jesus only died for the elect.
LOOK VS 4-5
Chose us......
Predestined us ........
No where in the Bible does it say, he chose those to go to hell.
No where in the Bible does it say that God predestined anyone to go to hell.
The bible does speak of election, predestined .
The Bible also speaks of whosoever will may come. Whosoever believes.
Can I explain or understand? No.
I don’t understand how Jesus could be God and man.
I don’t the Trinity.
Gods chose us before the foundations of the earth.
Yes, Jesus died on the cross for our sins, and we have redemption through His blood (vs 7) We are saved by His grace.
It was God who loved us so much that gave His Son Jesus to die a horrible death on the cross for our sins.
We are going to look at why he chose us in VS 4
That we should be holy and without blame before Him in love,
God saves us, sanctifies us, and sees no blemish in us.
It’s standing before a judge in court. Not guilty.
We are in Christ. Christ is in us.
20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
That what God see when He see us. He sees Christ in us.
The work of the Holy Spirit that makes is possible for us holy and without blame in the everyday aspect of life.
The Holy Spirit is always working in us so more like Christ.
1 John 2:6 (NKJV)
6 He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.
21 For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps:
“let others see Jesus in me”
Ephesians 1:5 (NKJV)
5 having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will,
Adoption: Adoption was not part of Jewish culture. If a wife could not have children, the husband would take on another wife. Abraham and Sara.
Adoption was part of the Gerco Roman culture.
Adoption is an amazing thing.
There are children, teens waiting to be adopted. (Florida Baptist Children’s home.
There are parents waiting or wanting to adopt.
My oldest brother was adopted. Ealb and how it changed his life.
Adoption can take a child and give them a live they never wold have had without adoption.
Adoption as sons of God. (child of God)
This is not speaking of our relationship to God, it is speaking our position from God.
We become a child of God through a new birth.
12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:
13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
Through His blood, we are Children of God. That is a blessing from the Father.
If we are a follower of Jesus, if you have repented of your sins and given your life to Jesus, if you are in Christian. You have be adopted into Gods family.
by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will
The pleasure of the Father can be related to the prodigal son.
The son returned, he repented, he was remorseful. His father was waiting on him.
20 “And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him.
21 And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight, and am no longer worthy to be called your son.’
22 “But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet.
23 And bring the fatted calf here and kill it, and let us eat and be merry;
24 for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ And they began to be merry.
Like the Father of the prodigal son. God the Father is waiting on us. It is His good pleasure to have everything waiting on us.
Ephesians 1:6 (NKJV)
6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.
Verse’s 3-6 is one sentence. READ ALL
We are accepted by God the Father, in the beloved. (In Jesus)
We are accepted by God the Father because we received the Son. That means that we are children of God because we are adopted into His family.
This is a Blessing from the Father.

Ephesians 1:7–12 (NKJV)
7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace
8 which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence,
9 having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself,
10 that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth—in Him.
11 In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will,
12 that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory.
Ephesians 1:7–8 (NKJV)
7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace
Redeemed, redeemed,
Redeemed by the blood of the Lamb;
Redeemed, how I love to proclaim it!
His child, and forever, I am
To redeem, means to purchase and set free by paying a price.
God the Father planned our redemption, Jesus provided our redemption.
We have redemption through His blood.
Some churches no long sing songs that talk about the blood.
Some preachers will not talk about the blood.
This verse tells us that we have redemption through His blood.
11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.’
The blood of Jesus was pure, holy, sinless, stainless, the blood that ran through the veins of Jesus was the blood of Jehovah God.
28 Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.
The blood of Jesus paid the price for our redemption.
Think about the fact that Jesus, through His blood, had for given us of our sins.
The blood is His sacrificial death for our sins.
the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace
The word forgive means “to carry away.” There was a ritual on the Jewish Day of Atonement when the high priest sent the scapegoat into the wilderness (Lev. 16).
First the priest killed one of the two goats and sprinkled its blood before God on the mercy seat. Then he confessed Israel’s sins over the live goat, and had the goat taken into the wilderness to be lost, to never be seen again.
Jesus carried away our sins, to never be seen again.
Ephesians 1:8–10 (NKJV)
8 which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence,
9 having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself,
10 that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth—in Him.
This is a reference to God giving us wisdom and understanding.
When someone becomes a believer, a follower of Jesus, there things about God that you will understand that unbelievers will not.
They do not understand they ways of God.
They don’t understand the plan of God.
This is why lost people have a hard understanding why we as Christians act different.
When you are saved, of get the spirit of God, and it gives a better understanding of God and His word.
This opens up our heart and mind to a better understanding of God.
In vs 8 “wisdom” “prudence” Amp understanding
The only way we can live you lives according to the ways we should, (Godly life) is to have wisdom and understanding.
5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
It is this wisdom and understanding that comes from God also help to live the life we should be living as a Christian. And we get that wisdom by asking.
9 having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself,
The word mystery 6 times in the book of Ephesians.
The word mystery has nothing to do with the unknown. It means a “sacred secret, once hidden but now revealed to God’s people”
There were things in the old testament that were a mystery that are reviled in the church age.
Ephesians 1:10 (NKJV)
10 that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth—in Him.
Ephesians 1:10 (NASB95)
10 with a view to an administration suitable to the fullness of the times, that is, the summing up of all things in Christ, things in the heavens and things on the earth. In Him
Ephesians 1:11–12 (NKJV)
11 In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will,
12 that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory.
“In Him” (Jesus Christ)
also we have obtained an inheritance,
4 to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you,
17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.
You may not have an inheritance on earth, but yo will in heaven.
being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will,
This was God’s plan, and nothing can take it away.
12 that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory.

Ephesians 1:13–14 (NKJV)
13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,
14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.
There is no salvation apart from the Holy Spirit.
I am thankful that God loves us.
I am thankful that Jesu died for us.
But, I am also thankful that the Holy Spirit came into the world.
7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.
8 And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
It is the Holy Spirit that convicts us of our sin.
Then it is our choose to repent of reject.
having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,
Amp: Stamped and sealed. This tells us that we bring to Him. Once will are sealed with the power of God, no one can unseals us.
He redeems us, He forgives us, He made know His will to us, He gives us eternal life life, He seals us.
