Everyday application:
What does God’s Word say about our entertainment choices?
No Gratuitous violence (or violence just for the sake of violence): one of the noticeable characteristics of the wicked is bloodshed, they are bloody men Psalm 139:19; the Bible tells us to put off outbursts of anger or wrath that would lead to violence Colossians 3:8
No immorality and lust: Exodus 20:14 tells us not to commit any sort of immorality, no sex before marriage and no deviation from the one man one woman relationship after marriage; Christ takes that teaching a step further and tells us that if we lust after a person we’re already guilty of committing immorality Matthew 5:27-28
No speech that offends God: Do not take His Name in vain Exodus 20:7, those who do are His enemies Psalms 139:20; free from shameful speech or low and obscene speech Colossians 3:8
V.10 You must seek the Lord wholly or you’ll wander from His instruction.
Heart: 3820 leb labe a form of 3824; the heart; also used (figuratively) very widely for the feelings, the will and even the intellect; likewise for the centre of anything:--+ care for, comfortably, consent, X considered, courag(-eous), friend(-ly), ((broken-), (hard-), (merry-), (stiff-), (stout-), double) heart((-ed)), X heed, X I, kindly, midst, mind(-ed), X regard((-ed)), X themselves, X unawares, understanding, X well, willingly, wisdom. see HEBREW for 03824
Sought: 1875 darash daw-rash’ a primitive root; properly, to tread or frequent; usually to follow (for pursuit or search); by implication, to seek or ask; specifically to worship:--ask, X at all, care for, X diligently, inquire, make inquisition, (necro-)mancer, question, require, search, seek (for, out), X surely.
V.11 You must treasure His Word in a special place (your heart) to keep from sin.
6845 tsaphan tsaw-fan’ a primitive root; to hide (by covering over); by implication, to hoard or reserve; figuratively to deny; specifically (favorably) to protect, (unfavorably) to lurk:--esteem, hide(-den one, self), lay up, lurk (be set) privily, (keep) secret(-ly, place).
Conclusion: Let’s put feet to what we need to practice: I have spare Scripture Memory Sheets; 1st we’re going to pray privately for the Lord’s help in keeping our lives free from sin, then we’re going to spend the remainder of our time together memorizing Scripture and discussing the real world applications of the Scripture that we memorize.
