walking the walk. Its one thing to know facts about Jesus its another thing to abide in Jesus.
Could be translated “live” instead of walk. περιπατέω
verse 8 (philosophy) was used broadly in the ancient world.
Element of the world or spirits or principles. This world is an evil place bc Satan is the prince of the power of the air.
Verse 9 Fullness verse emptiness.
There is no “fullness” (plērōma) in philosophy based on vain human reasoning. For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives. Hence only in Christ can one have fullness. Apart from Him is emptiness. As philosopher Jean Paul Sartre put it, “Life is an empty bubble on the sea of nothingness” (cf.
Jesus is full of God so by extention we can be full of God when we are full of Him.
the idea of the world and philosophy are empty but Christ brings fullness. He makes us whole.
You can be full of Jesus of full of it. lol can I say that.
Not only is all the “fullness” (plērōma) of God in Christ (v. 9), but also we have been given fullness in Christ. Our fullness of life comes from Christ’s fullness.
verse 11-13 Jesus does not just make bad people a little better. Or sick people well. He makes dead people alive. You were a dead man walking but now you walk in Christ.
The Bible Knowledge Commentary 2:13–14
The same “power” (energeias; cf. “energy” in
verse 14 - the picture here is that in the ancient world when someone was executed on a cross. the Roman authorities would fasten a notice of the criminals charges for which they were being executed on the cross
verse 15 this is quite an impressive statement. To triumph over something is to celebrate victory. Its the parade after the super bowl.
Can I ask you who were the rulers and authorities at that time that Jesus put to open shame or disgrace publicly? was it Pilot and the Roman all the way up to Cesar? was it the Jewish leadership the High priest and the Sanhedrin? NO!
it was the demonic power and Satan. (Sin, death, and Hell). now does this not sound like verse 8 which we looked at earlier? (elementary spirits) we will see this again in verse 20.
Verse 17 would you rather be a shadow of a Christian or have all the substance of Christianity?
Verse 18 some people seem spiritual but they are really unspiritual. They act humble but they are inflated.
Verse 23 - False humility (ascetic practices vr 18.)
Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience,
Humility that is not connected to Christ is false and inflated. It exists to prop people up.
If you non Christian asked, “what does Christianity offer me” what would you say?
simple answer it offers you Jesus Christ.
Jesus plus nothing equals everything.
