And when the time drew near that Israel must die, he called his son Joseph and said to him, “If now I have found favor in your sight, put your hand under my thigh and promise to deal kindly and truly with me. Do not bury me in Egypt,
but let me lie with my fathers. Carry me out of Egypt and bury me in their burying place.” He answered, “I will do as you have said.”
And he said, “Swear to me”; and he swore to him. Then Israel bowed himself upon the head of his bed.
Then Israel said to Joseph, “Behold, I am about to die, but God will be with you and will bring you again to the land of your fathers.
Moreover, I have given to you rather than to your brothers one mountain slope that I took from the hand of the Amorites with my sword and with my bow.”
Pray that we understand how not to surrender in Egypt; how to live into the essence of the King
Jacob at the end of his life was preparing to hand-off the Birth Right bestowed upon him.
A man who learned to wrestle with the Lord
Live in the essence of the King instead of his flesh nature
A man who after receiving and walking in the God-said; had encountered life
regardless what he faced he was sure of two things:
He would not/did not want to rest in Egypt
He did not want his legacy to die in Egypt
One has to ask what was Jacob so concerned with? after-all;
Joseph had increased in Egypt
The people of Israel in the middle of a major famine (according to 47:27) gained possessions; were fruitful; were multiplied
Is this not what every good parent wants for their children?; Is this not a fulfillment of the God-said over Jacob’s life?
Perhaps the greatest concern he noted was how Egypt
once a place of refuge;
had become a place of oppression; a place of restraint; a place of tribulation
Egypt offered something of value; what was the return? What was it taking from Israel’s lineage
The world (Egypt) offers the essence of your flesh an exchange that will lead your Kingly essence into oppression.
The world (Egypt) offers the essence of your flesh an exchange that will lead your Kingly essence into oppression.
Essence of the King from Birth
Essence of the King from Birth
We learned about Jacob that the Lord had declared He would be the greater nation; Jacob would be the one who carries the inheritance and is not just a part of it.
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”
While this is spoken of quite some time after Jacob is born it tells of how the Lord has done something in each of us; that essence of the King that He has deposited in each of was granted by design to equip us
I formed you (designed to engage with your surroundings)
I knew you (intimately aware of your capability)
I consecrated you (dedicated you with proper equipping for His service)
I appointed you (Set you in place; not easily diseased or uprooted)
The essence the King of Heaven and earth has bestowed you with makes you incredibly valuable to the Lord
Joseph was no less different than Jacob and tells us about some of the trials and tribulations we may face because of the essence in us
Hated for the Love shown
Hated for the Love shown
Now Israel loved Joseph more than any other of his sons, because he was the son of his old age. And he made him a robe of many colors.
But when his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him and could not speak peacefully to him.
The Lord made time to dress you… and to equip you (think back to the garden)
Formed you and knew you
when they saw… they
hated him (you will be hated for my name’s sake) Matt 10:22
could not speak peace (define salom prosperity, favor, peace)
Hated for the Assignment
Hated for the Assignment
Now Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers they hated him even more.
He said to them, “Hear this dream that I have dreamed:
Behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and behold, my sheaf arose and stood upright. And behold, your sheaves gathered around it and bowed down to my sheaf.”
His brothers said to him, “Are you indeed to reign over us? Or are you indeed to rule over us?” So they hated him even more for his dreams and for his words.
Knew You; and Consecrated you
The assignment given to you by the Lord is offensive to some (those who are not walking in the Spirit)
The fact that you heard the assignment or you saw it in a dream causes some to laugh the idea
Not everyone is going to celebrate your assignment
When the Lord first spoke your assignment… who else heard it?
who did you tell?
when they heard did they celebrate and rally to support or did they mock and tear you down?
They can’t make sense of your calling but hate you even more…
Hated for the Appointment
Hated for the Appointment
Then he dreamed another dream and told it to his brothers and said, “Behold, I have dreamed another dream. Behold, the sun, the moon, and eleven stars were bowing down to me.”
But when he told it to his father and to his brothers, his father rebuked him and said to him, “What is this dream that you have dreamed? Shall I and your mother and your brothers indeed come to bow ourselves to the ground before you?”
And his brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept the saying in mind.
The appointment is the establishment… Who is going to take it away from you?
Since they cannot take you away from the God-said now they must Remove you
His own father rebukes him.
His brothers now did not just hate him… they were jealous of him
Take note that Israel Kept it in Mind… He knew but wrestled with the idea of who Joseph is
Due to time constraints it is best to end here and pick up on this next week.
Make note that Joseph is a child of promise loved equipped anointed and appointed. This caused him to be hated if you read on you will note his brothers conspire against him to initially kill him… yet the sentence they pass over on him in some ways is worse they sell him to Egypt where we will note his giftings are being consumed by Egypt.
Leeches
Imagine this is what is done against you by brothers and loved ones what will the world do to you…?
***Parable of the field workers the last one that arrives gets the compensation as the others… The entire hierarchy of creation on display but you the one that arrived at the very end now carrier of the inheritance and the other workers who get sideways with you…”
I want to send you away with this:
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
Even in the distress the Lord is calling you out
