Matthew 16:13–18 NKJV
13 When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” 14 So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” 15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 17 Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.
Introduction:
On Wednesday at 12:35 PM The Abilene Fire department showed up ready to break down the front door because they thought the roof in the back. was on fire. I was sitting in my office when Jonathan told me that they where evacuating the Church. He asked me if I wanted my jacket but all my brain registered fire.
As far as I know the damage to the building only sustained cosmetic damage. the pant burnt off the wall.
it was misting all day on Wednesday so that was a blessing. The fire department showed up very quickly. That was a blessing. They where able to put the fire out before any damage was done to the building.
This morning we are going to discus the difference between what I have been taught and what I know.
The Lord had done and is doing things in our lives all the time. sometimes we don’t realize that He is building something powerful in us.
Jesus takes this moment for impartation and conformation. He confirms to Peter the truth that he sees, Jesus imparts the truth that the gates of Hell will not prevail.
God uses every part of our life for His Glory.
First we are taught then we are tried, then we comfort and teach someone else.
Church on the Rock, Abilene is a group of people a specific group of people, God’s glory has been all over this place, is still all over this place, and if we keep Christ in the center, His Glory will be all over this place.

1.Our Lord asked His Disciples two questions: 1. Who do men say that I am? Then He asked, “Who do you say that I am?

Do you Think The Lord was seeking information? Or was He taking advantage of a moment for impartation?

Right, This was a moment of confirmation.

Every believer in Jesus has to come to the same moment Peter the disciple came to. He is the Christ.

Who do men say that I am?

When Jesus asks who do men say that I am? that is the moment when we here about the things He has done for others, reputation if you will.
However you don’t know it to be true until the Spirit of God reveals it to you. Further, until it is tested you don’t have a testimony.
1 John 1:1–4 NKJV
1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life—2 the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us—3 that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ. 4 And these things we write to you that your joy may be full.
Psalm 34:8 NKJV
8 Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!
There are things in the faith that we are going to experience. Because, we are not taught enough that The Lord will allow us to experience some things so that we know the truth about who He is.
You don’t know Him as a doctor, until you need a healing.
You don’t know Him as a lawyer until He Shows up in the courtroom.
You don’t know Him as the Prince of peace until He beings peace to your chaos!
Some of us have tasted the rescue from hopelessness.
Some of have tasted rescue from deaths door.
Some of us have been the returning prodigal and some of us have also seen our very own prodigal come home?
Have you tasted the goodness of God? Have you been taught and confirmed that His word is true?

2. The point we are making is this. First you are taught then you are tried, then finally you comfort and teach.

2 Corinthians 1:3–4 NKJV
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
Don’t give up now! God is working on your behalf right now! nothing that you have ever been through either by your own hand or fault or that of another is wasted by God.
As you look back on all the sorrow and pain think about the fact that you are still here!
Let’s take a moment and praise God that He sustained you! Now, let’s thank Him that He comforted you. Now, Let’s thank Him that He is going to use you and all of this to be the answer to someones prayer.
God is going to take all of that rejection that you recieved and use it to be someones restoration. If you will step into what God has called you to and do the next thing that He is calling you to He will heal you in the process.

3. Church on the Rock,Abilene is being built and the gates of hell will not prevail against it!

Matthew 16:18 NKJV
18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.
The Church is not a name it’s the people.
When we say Church on Rock,Abilene we are talking about a specific group of people and you are one of those people.
You are absolutely a blessing to this house. You may have a hard time hearing this but you are a big deal here. you might say I have only been here to weeks, hey hey, slow down; we are not like other churches, we want that two weeks!
Remember that rejection I was talking about just a few minutes ago? Somebody got real mad when I mentioned someone else’s restoration and you got mad? don’t be scared that I’m talking to you right now! your healing might be wrapped up in helping someone else. Don’t let your hate get in the way of your healing! Give it to God.
Conclusion:
I truly believe that God showed up and showed out for us on Wednesday. He showed up for us as a group and has shown up for us countless times for us as individuals.
We may be going through things. But the things we are going through are for His glory is going to shine through us through His grace.
God is using us to comfort others the same way He comforted us. God is on the move in this Church and that means you! So, let’s take a moment to thank God for what He has done is doing and will do.
