Identifying the Lost Around Us

A quick lesson from the parable of the sower: The best way to figure out who’s receptive to the gospel is to share the gospel and see who’s receptive (not guess beforehand).

Asking “Thermometer Questions”

Thermometer questions are a way to progress conversations with purpose, discern someone’s spiritual temperature, and find open doors for evangelism.

Gauge receptivity
FIRE acronym (Find common ground, interests, relationships, experiences w/ spirituality)
Would you ever be interested in going to church with me?
Do you have any experiences with spiritual things?
Hear their story
Do you ever go to church or anything like that?
Would you consider yourself a spiritual person?
Who do you think Jesus is?
Share your story
Can I tell you about how Jesus changed my life?
Share the gospel
Can I tell you how he could change your life?
Can I tell you the main point of what Christianity is about?
Do you know what the gospel is?
Ask for a response
Is there any reason you shouldn’t give your life to Jesus today?

Encouragement

We’ll talk about how to revisit the gospel with folks who have already heard it in a couple weeks. This week, take a step to deepen a conversation with someone from your people map. Be bold in your conversations!
