The Caring Eagle
Isaiah 40:31 “31 Yet those who wait for the Lord Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary.”
The phrase "mount up with wings as eagles" comes from
Isaiah 40:31
and is used metaphorically to describe the spiritual strength and renewal that believers receive when they wait on the Lord
WHAT IS A METAPHOR.
On the broadest level, a metaphor is simply an instance of when “comparative language is used so that what is unknown may be understood in terms of what is known.”Thus, every metaphor has two parts,, the source and the target, Metaphor; is a Representation A Declaration that one Thing is (or represents) another; or, Comparison by Representation.
The imagery in the text draws on the eagle's remarkable ability to soar to great heights with seemingly effortless flight
. This metaphor suggests that those who trust in God can rise above earthly challenges, gaining a heavenly perspective and renewed strength.
Stop looking up to your problems, look up to God.
When you look down on you problems, the problem is beneath you. You can step over it.
Psalm 18:29 “29 For by You I can run at a troop of warriors; And by my God I can leap over a wall.”
. This spiritual ascent is likened to the swift and powerful flight of an eagle, symbolizing the ability to transcend worldly concerns and commune with God
. The comparison to eagles also emphasizes strength and endurance, as eagles are known for their impressive wingspan and capacity to carry heavy burdens
. This biblical metaphor encourages believers to seek spiritual elevation and divine empowerment through faith and patience
FLY EAGLES FLY.
(Deuteronomy 32:11)
In the early stages of salvation we are babes in Christ.
We desire the sincere Milk of the WORD. So we can grow. We don’t know how to stand strong in the Lord on our own. We always need help
We don’t understand the elementary principles of the scripture.
Hebrews 5:12 “12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you the elementary principles of the actual words of God, and you have come to need milk and not solid food.”
We still trying to distinguish right from wrong.
We are not sure what sound doctrine is.
But we have a desire to know God intimately, and to understand His WORD.
Like a Baby we don’t want watered down milk, we don’t want watered down Gospel
There Gotta be a bridge that takes us from where we are to where we need to be.
In order to Fly like an Eagle we must have faith to do so.
Jesus is the Bridge. Jesus is the author and finisher of our FAITH. Jesus is the wind beneath our wings.
Jesus propels us to FAITH’S ATMOSPHERE.
“As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings” (Deuteronomy 32:11).
God’s care for HIS CHILDREN is illustrated by the eagle who gets her young eaglets to fly.
There are five verbs in this text that end with “eth” in the kjv.
These five verbs show five actions of the eagle which portray God actions in training the Israelites and also in training us.
FIRST — HE STIRRETH
FIRST — HE STIRRETH
“As an eagle stirreth up her nest.” To get the young eaglets to fly the eagle must stir up the nest and practically force the young eaglets out of the nest to fly.
God often disturbs us by bringing affliction, calamity, death or some other trial into our life that takes us out of our comfort zone.
There is a great danger of the saints becoming too comfortable in their situation and therefore not growing spiritually.
Moab was condemned because they had “been at ease from their youth... hath settled on his lees” (Jeremiah 48:11),
the prophet Amos rebuked Israel for the same problem when he said “Woe to them that are at ease in Zion” (Amos 6:1).
It is not a sin to be comfortable, but if your situation is becoming uncomfortable, God may be stirring you up in order to help you grow spiritually and to do something for him.
SECOND — HE FLUTTERETH
SECOND — HE FLUTTERETH
“Fluttereth over her young.” The “fluttereth” is associated with the stirring. The eagle is not forsaking her young but this action is to encourage the young eaglets to fly.
God has stirred up your nest because He cares for you and wants you to do His will.
THIRD — HE SPREADETH
THIRD — HE SPREADETH
“Spreadeth abroad her wings.” This is to catch the young eaglets as they try to fly.
No mother eaglet wants her young ones to drop to the earth.
When the young wings lose their strength the eagle is there to catch the eaglet.
Likewise the believer — God does not “suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able” (I Corinthians 10:13).
He will not give you a burden you cannot carry, work you cannot do, etc.
So “cast thy burden upon the Lord and he shall sustain thee; he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved” (Psalm 55:22). The word translated “moved” could also be translated “fall.”
FOURTH — HE TAKETH
FOURTH — HE TAKETH
“Taketh them” This involves taking the young eaglets back to the nest and trying again.
We may fail at first but God will see to it that we are trained over and over.
We may have to practice again and again to be what God wants us to be.
This is what it means to work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
don’t ever give up because you messed up. GET UP. 1 John 2:1–2 “1 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; 2 and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.”
FIFTH — HE BEARETH
FIFTH — HE BEARETH
“He beareth them on her wings.”
God will always care for you, and if your nest is upset, He is there to give you adequate support. God has your good in mine, and He will provide what you need when you need it. His wings are for your support.
Revelation 12:12–14 “12 For this reason, rejoice, you heavens and you who dwell in them. Woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has come down to you with great wrath, knowing that he has only a short time.” 13 And when the dragon saw that he was thrown down to the earth, he persecuted the woman who gave birth to the male Child. 14 But the two wings of the great eagle were given to the woman, so that she could fly into the wilderness to her place, where she was nourished for a time, times, and half a time, away from the presence of the serpent.”
Those that wait shall mount up
Psalm 27:12–14 13 I certainly believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord In the land of the living. 14 Wait for the Lord; Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the Lord.”
