Two things that are often put in opposition to one another are science and faith.
Specifically people use the term science to argue against the existence of God.
But what is science?
Definition: A systematic enterprise that builds and organizes knowledge, characterized by empirical observation, experimentation, and the development of theories to explain natural and social phenomena.
Scientific Method- using five senses to collect data
Observable and repeatable
Science is a term used to the practice of acquiring knowledge.
It is completely dependent on the laws of nature being consistent and logical.
Taking this definition, lets apply it to something like evolution.
Is evolution observable or repeatable?
It is not, meaning that when we come to interpret the things around us, we are ultimately going to have some larger concepts guiding us.
We will see the world around us in a specific concept, which will influence how we interpret the data we receive.
Science is not the enemy, for it is simply observing the world around us.
The question for us to answer is what faith are we allowing to be our guide.
Biblically Based Science:
What is the starting point for us to interpret the world around us?
The Bible as God’s innerant Word.
God is Himself logical, orderly, and consistent and has made a universe that follows suit.
“scientists should not only hold the Bible in esteem over nature but also take their lead in the study of nature from the Scriptures. Where the Bible provides specifics about creation, this information must be considered incontrovertible. Where the Bible is not specific, biblical principles about creation must guide the study of creation.” -Richard Overman
True science, then, is the study of the laws of nature as descriptions of the systematic way God created and normally upholds His universe. -Richard Overman
