Title: Why Did God Send Snow?
Title: Why Did God Send Snow?
Introduction:
Introduction:
For the past two weeks, we haven’t been able to gather for church due to weather-related issues. If you’re like many of us, your week may feel a bit off—after all, Sundays often help us mark the rhythm of our days. Maybe you’re wondering, Why another week? Why two weeks in a row? God, why did You allow snow to fall on Sunday again?

Life is full of "why" questions. From childhood, we ask things like, Why is the sky blue? Why do dogs bark and cats meow? But what if we began asking, "Why does God send snow?" Is it simply a natural occurrence, or does God have a deeper purpose for the snow in our lives?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I. Snow Reveals God’s Power (Job 37:5-7)
I. Snow Reveals God’s Power (Job 37:5-7)
Context to Job 37. Job of course has endured much sorrow. His 3 older friends come along and are telling him of his sin. But Job was a righteousness man, he wasn't living in sin. Bad things happen to what we say, “Good Folks.” Elihu, his younger friend didn’t speak out at first, being respectful and letting the “Old Wise Guys” speak. But once evident they were not speaking truth to their friend, Elihus speaks out from Job chapters 32-37. Here we pick up in 37:5.
5 God’s voice is glorious in the thunder. We can’t even imagine the greatness of his power.
6 “He directs the snow to fall on the earth and tells the rain to pour down.
7 Then everyone stops working so they can watch his power.
God’s Unmatched Power: “God thunders marvelously… He does great things which we cannot comprehend” (Job 37:5).
Snow falls by God’s command—a display of His sovereignty and power over creation.
Snow as a reminder: We are not in control—God is. Just as He governs the seasons, He governs our lives.
👉 Reflection: Are you trusting in God’s power through the different seasons of your life?
II. Snow Reflects God’s Purpose (Isaiah 55:10-11)
II. Snow Reflects God’s Purpose (Isaiah 55:10-11)
10 “The rain and snow come down from the heavens and stay on the ground to water the earth. They cause the grain to grow, producing seed for the farmer and bread for the hungry.
11 It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.
God’s Word is like snow: Just as snow nourishes the earth, God’s Word brings spiritual life.
Snow may seem like an inconvenience to us, but it fulfills a purpose—to water the earth and prepare for growth. Sometimes we also feel like God’s Word is an inconvenience, but it too is there to see growth in us.
From Substitutes to Reality
1 “Is anyone thirsty? Come and drink— even if you have no money! Come, take your choice of wine or milk— it’s all free!
2 Why spend your money on food that does not give you strength? Why pay for food that does you no good? Listen to me, and you will eat what is good. You will enjoy the finest food.
(Isaiah 55:1-2): The world’s pleasures never satisfy, but when we come to Christ, we receive 2 things:
living water John 4:13-14
13 Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again,
14 but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”
bread of life John 6:35
35 And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.
From Death to Life (Isaiah 55:3-5): God’s eternal covenant, fulfilled in Jesus (2 Samuel 7:16; Acts 13:34), offers new life to all who trust Him (John 5:24).
3 “Come to me with your ears wide open. Listen, and you will find life. I will make an everlasting covenant with you. I will give you all the unfailing love I promised to David.
4 See how I used him to display my power among the peoples. I made him a leader among the nations.
5 You also will command nations you do not know, and peoples unknown to you will come running to obey, because I, the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, have made you glorious.”
16 Your house and your kingdom will continue before me for all time, and your throne will be secure forever.’ ”
34 For God had promised to raise him from the dead, not leaving him to rot in the grave. He said, ‘I will give you the sacred blessings I promised to David.’
24 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.
👉 Reflection: How might God be using this season to fulfill His purpose in your life?
III. Snow Brings Correction and Mercy (Job 37:12-13)
III. Snow Brings Correction and Mercy (Job 37:12-13)
Correction: Sometimes God sends difficult seasons—whether a harsh winter or a personal trial—to draw us back to Him.
Like a winter storm disrupts our plans, God’s discipline calls us to repentance (Hebrews 12:10-11).
From Guilt to Pardon (Isaiah 55:6-7): When we repent and turn to Christ, God grants mercy and pardon.
Mercy: Snow also symbolizes God’s cleansing and the grace He offers.
Psalm 51:7: Just as snow covers the earth in white, Christ’s sacrifice covers our sins completely.
👉 Reflection: Is God using a storm in your life for correction or to display His mercy?
IV. Snow Points to God’s Certainty (Isaiah 55:8-11)
IV. Snow Points to God’s Certainty (Isaiah 55:8-11)
God’s Ways Are Higher: We cannot always understand why God allows hardships, but His Word assures us that He is working.
Certain Results: Just as the snow accomplishes its work in the soil, God’s promises will be fulfilled in His time.
👉 Reflection: Are you trusting God’s plan when life doesn’t make sense?
V. Snow Transforms the Wilderness to Paradise (Isaiah 55:12-13)
V. Snow Transforms the Wilderness to Paradise (Isaiah 55:12-13)
From Wilderness to Paradise: Sin turns life into a barren wilderness (Isaiah 5:3-6), but God’s grace transforms it into a fruitful garden.
The snow that seems harsh today prepares the soil for future growth.
Jesus promises joy and eternal life to those who believe in Him.
👉 Reflection: Will you let God transform your wilderness into joy and new life?

To Bring Correction or Mercy – God uses every season to discipline or bless.
To Assure Us of His Certainty – Even when we don’t understand, God is faithful.
