Intro
Last week we whet over chapter 8 and Paul whet over giving up your freedoms/liberality to not cause a Christian to stumble into sin. In chapter 9 Paul continues with the topic of giving things up. We are going over not giving things not to cause believers to stumble but giving up things to get more people saved.

Paul's Authority(1-3)

so (Read 1-3) Paul first sets up is defense(apologia)to authority. He is doing this because there were Individuals in Corinth criticizing Paul as a leader. and as we will see here shortly there were others they thought were above him. He also is giving his defense to establish he has authority and with that authority he dose have the right to be compensated but he gives that up.
His defense to his authority is he is an Apostle and he gives one of the requirements to be an apostle. seeing the risen christ before Jesus entered into heaven. There is this movement happing the new apostolic movement were people are getting the tittle of Apostle and they have a speal authority but its harisy.
The other part of his defense is his friuts. his labor for the corinithans becoming christans. these reasons why he has athority.

Rights Ministers Have (4-14)

(read 4-6) The other Apostles are listed here. Jesus’s brothers he had at least 4 that are listed in scripture and two wrote books of the bible James and Jude. And James was and early church leader. And Peter is listed so these would have been Apostle the Corinthians were familer with an potentially visited the Corinthian church. Did peter visit Corinth I think mostly he did. In Chapter 1 we say them saying “I follow Paul” “I follow Apollos” “I follow Peter” We know Paul and Apollos both fisted corinth so its not a crazy leap to assume Peter did has well. And Paul says Peter travails and Paul is comparing himself to him. I think he did. Peter and jesus brothers were known by the Corinthians.
Paul talks about the rights ministers have to be compisated for there work. but its food, shelter and there familys as well. The rights is for just food. This is a stark contrast to pastors who demand an excesses payment or these prosperity Gospel preachers who brag that they have millions and millions of dollars.
Hillsong payed TD Jakes got 150K dollers to speak for one day. One day 150K vs food and water.
(Read 7-10)
Paul uses 3 analogy a solder, a farmer and a shepherd. With there tree they corilate to being a solder of heven, famer planst seed and pastor means sheperd.
“What soldier has to pay his own expenses.” The military is expensive Ive been in the army part time for 7 years now and is super expensive from training and equipment. I shot a live AT4 and its a one time use 20k. I don't pay for that 20k your parents taxpayer dollars do. When I trail for a training I don't pay.
The other two the Farmer and Shepherd Paul talks about how they generate a resource fruit and milk and that they consume part of that resore. My uncle has a farm and he right now has hazelnuts. if he sold 99 % of them I saw him eating 1% of them would I be weird for me to critizise him for doing so.
Paul is saying ministers should be compensated. And God said so. reference Deu 25:4. “You must not muzzle an ox to keep it from eating as it treads out the grain.” This is a Law given in the old tenement about farming practises. Where a Ox would tread gain. Thraeding grain is if you have something like what livestock walks thew it to nock down grain from the straw and the plant would stay up. it makes it easyer to harvist and dose not kill the plant. Sense the Ox is layboring for the harvist it should be feed. As a person minister for the spirical harveist they are intitled to be compisated for there work. And thats what paul continuse with in (11-14)
(Read 11-14)
In verse 12 The corithians were giving compination to others who came and peached to them. most likey peter and some of jesus brothers. so they were not aposed to giving compinsation to them but aparintly they were to paul. Paul is not saying this complaining that he should. he says here that he never used that right and he gose into more detail later. Paul also says that in the temple Jewish priest get comoinsated. So paul is saying you should compinsate someone ministring to you. So the question is how much in veres 11 its says food and drink. Basic needs to survive. Yealer someones family was involved.
So for today how much should a pastor becominsated. In my opinine they should be compinsated if you can the avrge standerd of living in your area. for exaplme how much should there house cost. if your in southern california and every singleone of you congents in your comunity is going to have a house that cosue over a million dolloers and a million doller house is an avrge sived some. then its not wrong for a paster to have a hosue thats a million dollers. but if your a pstor in a area like rulae idaho and the avgre hosue is around 200k the pastor should not have a million doler home they got from ministry.
In veres 6 we see paul worked to pay his living expenses. and we see in the bible he made tents.
