Psalm 51:5 (NKJV)
Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me.
Psalm 51:6 (NKJV)
Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts, And in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom.
Theres a great gulf in between these two beholds.
One behold reveals mans reality. Mans current condition. Born in sin and shaped in iniquity.
The other behold reveals Gods expectation.
David said no only has he sinned once but by his very nature he is a sinner.
God tells me to draw a circle I draw a square He tells me to go left I go right.
David goes to the root of the issue and is saying from birth he was a sinner.
“In our shaping we were put out of shape, and when we were conceived our nature conceived sin.”
There was never a time in our lives where we was never without sin in our lives.
vs. 51:6
Hidden Part means the secret place.
God desires not merely outward virtue but inward purity.
But if we are honest with ourselves this is at all our reality.
Truth in the inward parts looks like this.
Reality- what is reality objectively. What corresponds to reality
True holiness- God doesn’t care for the pretence of purity. or the false display of what we deem to be holy.
God looks at the heart, mind and soul.
NIV Psalm 51:6
The New International Version (1984) (Psalm 51)
6 Surely you desire truth in the inner parts;
you teach me wisdom
in the inmost place.
This inmost place is who you really are.
Its where integrity is weighed.
You can be in a remote village, urban area, a desert.
God wants to do His renovation in the inmost place.
He wants to meet us in the inmost place.
This is where we learn who we really are.
This is how we truly discover others.
Psalm 139:13- For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
Job 38:36 Who endowed the heart with wisdom or gave understanding to the mind?
Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Sprinkle the atoning blood upon me with the appointed means. Give me the reality which legal ceremonies symbolise.
Nothing but blood can take away my blood-stains, nothing but the strongest purification can avail to cleanse me. Let the sin-offering purge my sin.
Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; he was the priest of God Most High.
And he blessed him and said: “Blessed be Abram of God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth;
And blessed be God Most High, Who has delivered your enemies into your hand.” And he gave him a tithe of all.
