Philippians 4: 19....God Our Provider

Psalm 16:8 “I have set the Lord always before me; Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.”

Introduction...

Jehovah Jireh....The Lord will provide....
This name reveals to us an essential aspect of God’s nature – His providence and care for His children.
Historically, this name emerged in a context where survival often depended on divine provision. For the ancient Israelites, living in harsh desert conditions, the idea of God as a provider was not abstract theology but a daily reality. This historical context helps us understand the power and resonance of this name throughout generations....TALK, PREACH.......
In our modern world, where material abundance often masks spiritual poverty, the name Jehovah Jireh takes on new significance. It reminds us that true provision goes beyond mere physical sustenance. God provides for our spiritual, emotional, and relational needs as well. This holistic understanding of provision can help us navigate the complexities of contemporary life with greater faith and confidence...TALK, PREACH....
and even though God provided throughout the entire bible, only once was the name Jehovah Jireh used...Genesis 22:14 “And Abraham called the name of the place, The-Lord-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”” ..TALK, PREACH.....
but we know that God provided that time for Abraham but He provided for Moses, for Daniel, for David, and the list goes on...
from a roof over ur head, food on your table, protection, peace, strength, clothes on your back, love, grace, mercy....
He has provided over and over again....
Our Father is rich...
Psalm 50:10 “For every beast of the forest is Mine, And the cattle on a thousand hills.”
Haggai 2:8 “‘The silver is Mine, and the gold is Mine,’ says the Lord of hosts.”
He owns it all....
but let’s not get caught up in material things....what He is truly rich with is...
love, mercy, grace, forgiveness, peace, comfort, wisdom....TALK, PREACH.....
here goes some sad news....we say we know all what God has done for us but DON’T give Him credit...TALK, PREACH........
we are quick to say look what I did...
the truth is God knows what we stand in the need of and He provides..
He is such a generous God that He also gives us some of our wants...
He can not give us all of our wants because we would turn them into idols and turn our back on Him and He knows what we can handle...
TALK, PREACH.......
Jehovah Jireh...the Lord will provide...
He did then and He is doing it now....
we just need to acknowledge it and it will draw you closer to Him....
let’s look at the text....

Text...

Philippians 4:19 “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
the church at Philippi, was planted by Paul on his second mission trip...
paul wrote the letter to cover some things with the church and of course to encourage them but here in this 4th chapter paul is thanking for the way they have blessed him and to let them know that God will provide for them..
Paul wished to thank the church for its help throughout his ministry. they had sent him a gift right after he had planted the church and they sent gifts when he was Thessalonica and at Corinth.
Philippi was a blessed town but some of the members that were sending gifts were not that well off.
but Paul encourages and lets them know that God will provide for all of your needs....
when you look at verses 10 thru 18 we see that overall this text is about stewardship of the people...
v10 their giving was revived
v 11-14, their giving was not necessary but it was appreciated
v 15-16, their giving was distinctive, they were the only church that gave to support the ministry and they did it consistently
v 17-18, their giving was sacrificial
v19 God would provide for them...
TALK, PREACH......(work text).
they gave what the could to the ministry because they knew the importance of the ministry...the spreading of the gospel...
they were faithful and God was faithful to them....
the bottom line is that God will provide....
He is providing right now and if you look back over your life, hopefully you can see where has already provided for you...
yes keeping the text in context, Paul was thanking the church for their giving to the ministry..
even when it seemed like they didn’t have anything, they gave...
because their faith and trust was strong...
but Paul reminds them that God will supply, God will provide....
and we must remember that God is our Provider...
this text feeds us well...
we shall see, the Great Provider,
the Great assurance of provision
the great provision
the great resource
and lastly the great mediator.....
let’s go deeper into the text...

Points....

the Great Provider,
Philippians 4:19 “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
Philippians Exposition

Whose God is that?.....MY GOD...

Philippians Exposition

The God of the prophets, the God of the apostles, the God of all the saints that have gone before us, “this is God, our God forever and ever”

to know where your help come from, you must know who the helper is...
Psalm 121:1–2 “I will lift up my eyes to the hills—From whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.”
i know my provide and i know where He is...
song writer say looking for love in all the wrong place, well we have a tendecy to look for help in the wrong place and from the wrong people...
TALK, PREACH.......
this is where that personal relationship comes in handy....so you will know...TALK, PREACH.......
God himself is the great provider of all of mankind since the beginning of time.
no matter what the need is, you need to know that the need is not greater than our true and living God.
because once you truly know Him, you can trust and depend on the great provider to meet your needs...
the Great assurance of provision and the great provision
Philippians 4:19 “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
The Bible Exposition Commentary Chapter Eleven: The Secret of Contentment (Philippians 4:10–23)

God has not promised to supply all our “greeds.” When the child of God is in the will of God, serving for the glory of God, then he will have every need met. Hudson Taylor often said, “When God’s work is done in God’s way for God’s glory, it will not lack for God’s supply.”

TALK, PREACH.......
The promise is to supply all your need; but it is all your need (not a promise to go beyond needs) In this, the promise is both broad and yet restricted.
God is able to provide and will supply whatever provision His dear child needs..
what is the provisions, all your needs....
this is not limited to only physical needs such as food, clothing, shelter, and all other material things. it also refers to our mental, emotional, social and spiritual needs...TALK, PREACH.......
here’s a little side note....
sometimes there may be a lesson that is needed to be learned before the need is met. some lessons such as more trust, endurance, love, joy, peace, gentleness, meekness, or control...TALK, PREACH......
and this lesson should be turned into a testimony so the believer can someone as they are trying to be a disciple maker on how the great provider supplied their needs and brought them through their test....TALK, PREACH......
the great resource...
Philippians 4:19 “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
Spurgeon thought that this verse was a great illustration of that wonderful miracle in
2 Kings 4:1-7
, where Elisha told the widow to gather empty vessels, set them out, and pour forth the oil from the one small vessel of oil she had into the empty vessels. She filled and filled and miraculously filled until every empty vessel was full.
According to His riches in glory describes the style in which God fills the empty vessels — the oil keeps flowing until every available vessel is filled.
there is no end to God’s resources...

The measure of His supply to you will be the immeasurable “riches of His grace”

HE is our creator....He is the only resource we truly need for our provisions because He is the source of our provision....it all comes from Him....TALK, PREACH......
finally, the great mediator.
Philippians 4:19 “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
Philippians Exposition

You shall have all your soul’s wants satisfied, but you must go to Christ for everything.

By Christ Jesus describes the how God meets our needs — our empty vessels are filled by Jesus in all His glory.
John 14:13–14 “And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.”
Matthew 7:7–8 ““Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.”
Philippians Exposition

Those who go to Jesus the most shall most often taste of His abundance, for through Him all blessings come.

it is in Him, thru Him and with Him that God shall provide...
we must remember that God does nothing for us apart from Jesus...
it something about that name....
in Jesus name...TALK, PREACH...

Conclusion....

The Bible Exposition Commentary Chapter Eleven: The Secret of Contentment (Philippians 4:10–23)

Our resources are the providence of God, the power of God, and the promises of God

He has promised to take care of what is His...and we belong to Him..
He continues to bless us with all of our needs and every now and then He gifts us with some of our wants...
but thru it all, God is our provider...
he is the great provider, his provisions are endless because his supply is endless...
he is the source of all our needs...
and He has made it so easy to get...
confess with you mouth and believe in heart...
take of your cross and follow Christ..
when you ask, ask in the name of Jesus...
He has provided us with so much on this side but this shall pass away..
and i don’t know about you but i want what He has provided and is waiting for us on the other...
peace, joy, salvation, eternal life...
and all of this is obtainable thru Jesus...How....
TALK, PREACH, CLOSE....
