Welcome to Vertical Church
42 And they were continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to the prayers.
As a church we seek to uphold the values of the NT church as seen in Acts 2:42 -
We are Trinitarian - while God is one in essence, He is three in person: God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit
We believe in the sovereignty of God - sovereign over all creation, sovereign over the affairs of men, sovereign over salvation
We believe in the authority of the Bible - Scripture alone is the Word of God
We are Biblical in our theology - we are a bible teaching church
We believe that the Church is not a building or a denomination but a people - those who are truly in Christ and embrace the truths that were embraced and confessed by the New Testament Church, the apostolic church.
We are evangelical - we believe that we are saved by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone.
We are a Vertical Church - we believe that all true worship and living is Vertical, God directed and for the glory of God alone.
Scripture Alone, Grace Alone, Faith Alone, Christ Alone, For the glory of God alone - join us on Sundays
Faith alone - Ephesians 2:8-9
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 not of works, so that no one may boast.
Let us worship God
Call to Worship - Zephaniah 3:17

Introduction: The 5 Benefits of Justification part 2 Romans 5:1-5
I have a question: How do you describe your salvation?
In the Book of Romans, Paul tells us why we need to be saved, he tells us how we can be saved, he tells us what we are saved from, he tells us what it means to be saved, he tells us the process involved in our salvation, and most important, he tells us the three persons of the God head, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit who have initiated, provided, paid for, and empowered our salvation.
It’s important to be able to describe your salvation because salvation is more than a momentary decision or a one time event. Your salvation began in eternity, it was accomplished at the cross, it was brought fruition when the Holy Spirit brought you to spiritual life, it was realized when you first believed, it strengthens and becomes more sure each day you walk with Christ, and it will be culminated the moment you leave this life or the moment when Christ gloriously and visibly returns.
This morning I want you to glory in the wonderful benefits of your salvation. In Romans 5 we will not only see the 5 benefits of justification, but the power of justification to preserve and protect you, and the fruit of the Holy Spirit through justification
(1) The 5 benefits of justification
1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we boast in hope of the glory of God. 3 And not only this, but we also boast in our afflictions, knowing that affliction brings about perseverance; 4 and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; 5 and hope does not put to shame, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
(1) Peace with God
1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
the primary effect of justification is peace with God. The war is over. It is not a ceasefire that might be broken at any moment. The war is over and we repent in unconditional surrender
The New Testament declares that by nature we are fallen creatures, that we have a built-in hostility towards God and we are therefore exposed to the wrath of God. The New Testament clearly teaches that deep down within us, our natural inclination is to hate God. But when we come to Christ, when we repent of our sins, the war is over. God signs a peace treaty. When God declares us just and gives us the righteousness of Christ, the war is over
Do you have a Daisy faith? He loves me, he loves me not. Immerse yourself in the truth of having peace with God because Christ has died in your place and taken away our sin
(2) Access into the presence of God
2 through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we boast in hope of the glory of God.
Adam and Eve banished from the Garden
Only the high priest could enter the Holy of Holies, and only once per year on the Day of Atonement
But Jesus took down the curtain
51 And behold, the veil of the sanctuary was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth shook and the rocks were split.
13 But now in Christ Jesus you who formerly were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. 14 For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups one and broke down the dividing wall of the partition 15 by abolishing in His flesh the enmity, the Law of commandments contained in ordinances, so that in Himself He might create the two into one new man, making peace, 16 and might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, having in Himself put to death the enmity.
And the ability to enter into the presence of God and to stand before God unashamed is by grace, and totally by grace
(3) A high degree of confidence and hope in God’s promise of bringing us to eternal life
2 through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we boast in hope of the glory of God. 3 And not only this, but we also boast in our afflictions, knowing that affliction brings about perseverance; 4 and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; 5 and hope does not put to shame
Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament based on Semantic Domains 33.368 καυχάομαι; καύχημα, τος; καύχησις, εως; ἐγκαυχάομαι; αὐχέω
καυχάομαι; καύχημαa, τος n; καύχησιςa, εως f; ἐγκαυχάομαι; αὐχέω: to express an unusually high degree of confidence in someone or something being exceptionally noteworthy—‘to boast.’καυχάομαι: ὁ καυχώμενος ἐν κυρίῳ καυχάσθω ‘whoever boasts must boast of the Lord’
It is a joyful boasting and is translated “rejoicing in hope” in some translations
hope - we do not possess an uncertain wish or an uncertain desire, New Testament hope is a confidence in the promises of God
the glory of God - The Greek word is doxe; its Hebrew equivalent, kabod, meant ‘heaviness’ or ‘weightiness’. Glory has to do with the intrinsic significance, weightiness and dignity of God
The greatness of God is why we can boast, the greatness of God is the reason we have hope in His promises
The verse begins with the word introduction and finishes with the word glory.
We come from spiritual death into spiritual life by grace. We rejoice in our salvation but then encounter struggles. We often disappoint ourselves abut by grace we are able to stand and by grace we are able to trust in the promise of what is called glorification. We shall be glorified. The greatness of God will prevail. God will be glorified.
(4) We are given the capacity to love
5 and hope does not put to shame, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
This is the love of God, agape, and God has poured it into our hearts. Our hearts are filled with the love of God. This is a supernatural work of grace. This is not a natural affection for people but it is the fruit of the Spirit, just as joy and patience and peace are the fruit, the results of the new birth, of our being born from above . It is a love that can grow, it is the same love that Christ possessed.
There are times when we might look at our divided, selfish, me first world and secular and wonder if the gospel can be effective. But then Christ tells us, by this shall all men know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. And this love is a love that is given by God and this love is a defining proof of the genuineness of our salvation.
And so I ask, do you have this love? Do you have a love for those who are in Christ, a love that shows to a lost and dying world that Christ is the only true source of love.
(5) We are given the Holy Spirit
5 and hope does not put to shame, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
We have just mentioned the fruit of the Spirit but let’s end this morning with this wonderful truth, the final benefit of justification. The indwelling presence of God
The Holy Spirit, the Spirit who produces holiness is our constant companion, our transformer, our ever present help in times of trouble, struggle and weakness .
The coequal of the Father and the Son, the one who was the constant companion of Jesus was his conception until his ascension, the Holt Spirit is the one who is now our constant companion, and helper and strength.
And he is given to us. To believers, to those who are in Christ, to those who were once enemies of God, to those who were once spiritually dead but have now been raised to life by the Spirit . To us. And I pray that you are able to say “to me.”
And this is the Spirit who dwells in you. And this is why we need to know about the greatness of our salvation.
May the Lord of peace Himself, grant you peace at all times, under all circumstances. The Lord be with you all. Amen.
