The Power of Forgiveness
Pastor Eric Khorombi
15 February 2025
Introduction
Forgiveness liberates us from the shackles of sin.
Refer to John 8:34 and Romans 6:16-22: "Everyone who sins is a slave to sin."
Sin no longer reigns over mankind as stated in Romans 6:14 and Psalm 19:13.
If we do not forgive others we sin against God.
The Old and New Man
Despite Jesus' triumph over sin, many are still trapped due to returning to their old ways.
Forgiveness empowers us to overcome sin and its deadly desires.
Reference to Romans 6:14: "For sin shall no longer be your master."
The Model of Jesus
Jesus exemplified ultimate forgiveness. Luke 23:33-34: "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing."
Empowered by Christ
Embrace the life of Jesus to extend forgiveness.
Example of Stephen, who forgave his persecutors with grace (Acts 7:54-60).
We are called to imitate such merciful actions.
Call to Love and Mercy
Matthew 5:44: "Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you."
Romans 12:20-21: Overcome evil with good.
Romans 8:9-17: Be led by the Spirit to live harmoniously with all.
Call to Action
Pray earnestly for those who wrong you.
Treat everyone with love and mercy, even your adversaries.
Remember the love Jesus has bestowed upon us through His sacrifice.
Conclusion
Let us embrace forgiveness, not only as an act of faith but as a testament to the love and mercy God has shown us.
By forgiving others, we align ourselves with the divine nature of Christ, who forgave all.
