Rev 19

Revelation 19:1–16 KJV 1900
1 And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God: 2 For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand. 3 And again they said, Alleluia. And her smoke rose up for ever and ever. 4 And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on the throne, saying, Amen; Alleluia. 5 And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great. 6 And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth. 7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. 8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. 9 And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God. 10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. 11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. 12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. 13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. 14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. 15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

Hallelujah! Praise Our God!

Hallelujah! God Saves! (Rev. 19:1)

1. God saves sinners

Salvation belongs to our God!
Matthew 1:21“21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.”
This is the fulfilment of a promise made in the beginning
Gen. 3:15 – And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”
Salvation of sinners, reconciliation to Himself has been God’s plan all along
Determined in eternity past, accomplished by Christ on Cross, applied through the ages by the Spirit
Completed by God in full in the future
Salvation is a driving theme of Revelation
Clear truth exposed is that salvation belongs to the one true living God and no one else
That is, only God can save
E.g. Rev. 19 – armies of heaven follow Him to war but no one but Christ fights
Revelation is filled with imagery & spiritual battles that overwhelm us
It’s meant to overwhelm us
To recognise that you can’t overcome your sin, your enemies only God can
You can’t oppose God and win
Isaiah 12:2 “2 Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: For the Lord JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; He also is become my salvation.”

2. God finishes His work

Power belongs to our God!
God promised over & over from the very beginning that He would save from sin
From beginning there has been opposition
From beginning, sin of God’s own people has complicated things
God’s purpose was never put off course, never stopped, never hindered
When sin entered, God was ready to begin
Herod tried to kill Jesus, Pharisees tried to kill Jesus early
No-one succeeded until Jesus laid down His life
They tried to seal Jesus in tomb, then tried to kill all His followers
Jesus meant it when He cried ‘It is finished’
In Revelation we see the final stage complete
Today, we see evil rampant & outright rebellion against God
This isn’t going to change God’s work
His Kingdom will come & His will be done

3. God is worthy of praise

Glory & honour belong to our God!
God is glorified in saving from sin
God is glorified in completing His work
God is glorified in defeating sin & wickedness
Does everything promised perfectly
He is worthy of all praise & worship
We worship God because it belongs to Him!

Hallelujah! God Judges! (Rev. 19:2-3)

1. God judges the wicked

This praise starts after the fall of ‘Babylon’
Babylon describes rebellious spirit of world
A political system of rebellion against God
A religious system of rebellion
It’s where sin leads us all
Ideologies built on pride, selfishness, greed & power
It’s a system already at work in this world
We see it in the way people seek power & control
We see it in pressure to conform worlds way of thinking on every issue
It’s a system, ideology that Christians are called to refuse – even in our day
While we may get discouraged at times because evil seems to triumph so often
Downfall of this world system is assured
Righteousness & truth will prevail
Take heart Christian & fight on
God will judge the wickedness of this world
Rev. 19:6 reminds of the destruction of ancient Babylon
Isaiah 34:10 KJV 1900
10 It shall not be quenched night nor day; The smoke thereof shall go up for ever: From generation to generation it shall lie waste; None shall pass through it for ever and ever.
Wickedness & rebellion is judged forever

2. God avenges His people

God not only judges for the wickedness
He also comes to avenge the wickedness poured out on His people
God sees the suffering, persecution & trials of His people
He isn’t watching dispassionately – He’s angered by abuse of His people in this world
Horrors that have been unleashed on God’s people through the centuries will not go unpunished
Pray, pray for perseverance in God’s saints

Hallelujah! Worship God!

Hallelujah! God Reigns!

Sing Hallelujah and Rejoice!

A white Horse -
He that sat upon Faithful and true
The Righteous Judge
Eyes Flame of Fire
Many Crowns
Name written no one knew
Clothes dipped in Blood
Now we know His Name
THE WORD OF GOD
ITS JESUS
Armies which were in Heaven go with Him
Sharp sword out of His mouth SMITE THE NATIONS
HE will rule them
He Treadeth the winepresses of the fierceness and WRATH OF ALMIGHTY GOD

Name is Written

King of Kings and Lord of Lords
