1 John 2:1-6
1 John 2:1-6
Verse 1:
John begins with concern for Believers obedience
Just because God forgives sins, is no reason for Believers to think that is a negligible thing. Rom. 6:1-2, Gal. 5:13, Heb. 10:26-27, James 2:14-17, 1 Pet. 2:16.
On the Contrary, Believers must not live in on going sin. 1Cor. 6:9-11, Eph. 5:3-5, 1 Jn. 3:6-10, Tit. 2:11-12, Col. 3:5-6.
Yet anyone who does sin, we have an Advocate with the Father. Rom. 8:34, Heb. 7:25, 9:24, 1 Tim. 2:5.
Verse 2:
This is available to any and all who would believe
All Who Are Drawn - John 6:44.
All Who Believe - John 3:16, 6:39-40.
All Who Call - Romans 10:13.
All Who Come - John 6:37, Rev. 22:17.
Verse 3:
John now emphasizes the Believers life of Obedience.
We Know - Evidence
V3 - We Know Him - We Obey - John 14:16, Luke 6:46.
V4 - We ONLY Say We Know Him - We Don’t Obey
Verse 5:
But if anyone obeys - Reinforces v3.
This is how we Know - Evidence
Verse 6:
Whoever claims - This is Universal to All who claim to be Christians.
Application
Application
Live a Life of Obedience: As believers, we are called to live lives that reflect our faith through obedience. While God's grace and forgiveness are abundant, it is not a license to continue living in sin. Instead, we must strive to live in accordance with God's commandments, demonstrating our faith through our actions. Reflect on areas in your life where you may need to align more closely with God's will and take steps towards obedience.
Embrace the Advocacy of Christ: When we do fall short and sin, it is crucial to remember that we have an advocate in Jesus Christ. He intercedes on our behalf before the Father, offering us grace and forgiveness. Embrace this truth and find comfort in knowing that you are not alone in your struggles. Lean on Christ's advocacy and seek His guidance in overcoming sin and growing in your faith.
Share the Message of Salvation: The salvation and advocacy of Christ are available to all who believe and call upon His name. As believers, we have the responsibility to share this message with others. Be intentional in sharing the gospel with those around you, inviting them to experience the transformative power of Christ's love and forgiveness. Encourage others to come to Jesus and find hope and salvation in Him.
