Standing up to peer pressure

Bible Passage: Daniel 3:1–30

IS THIS COMPROMISING MY FAITH OR VALUES
TYLER

Know your values ( Daniel 3:1-7

Daniel 3:2–3 NRSV
Then King Nebuchadnezzar sent for the satraps, the prefects, and the governors, the counselors, the treasurers, the justices, the magistrates, and all the officials of the provinces, to assemble and come to the dedication of the statue that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up. So the satraps, the prefects, and the governors, the counselors, the treasurers, the justices, the magistrates, and all the officials of the provinces, assembled for the dedication of the statue that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up. When they were standing before the statue that Nebuchadnezzar had set up,
Some times the pressures of life, chaneg who we are if we are not rooted
King Nebuchadnezzar previously fell down and worship Daniel and even stated “Your God is the God of Gods, and lord of Kings”
The statue was approximately 90ft tall and 9 ft wide
Statue was probably visible but also at a distance because the statue had a reveal ceremony
It wasnt necceasrily to “ worship” but sto show their allegance to the King and government
The King establish a time for the officials to come together and dedicate the statue ( In a way that is like honoring to a deity , to show their allegience
The people were surrounded by officals honoring this statue
How does one change from recognition of who God is to valuing themself?
Whats at stake? if the people dont fall down and worship during this ceremony, shall be IMMEDIATLY Thrown into a furnace
A furnace was practical and hot enough for baking pottery or, bricks and forging metal (Hot forging
Temperatures of up to 1150°C are required for steel. Blacksmithing: Temperatures of 1100–1200°C are used for drawing-down, upsetting, and punching.
They speculated that the tempurtaure was any where from 2,000- 5000 degrees

APPLICATION ,SHARACH , meishach, abendigo, had to ask their self (am I willing to count the cost to stand up for my beliefs and values)

No you move Captain america

APPLICATION

We have to ask ourself what are our values, and stand upon truth and what we know is right regardless of the the outcome.
We cant let the world bend who we are
Culture often demands to follow its norms, just like you and If today face similar pressures to fit in.
Don’t allow others and culture to influence decisions that you know are wrong
We have teh Holy Spirit within us, in those situations ask your self 3 questions
IS it considered Holy and would the lord apporve ( be holy for i am holy
Would my parents approve
DO i have any hesitations?

Stand with Courage (Daniel 3:8-16

As the people fell down and worshiped this statue, they procedded to glorify king nebuchanezzar
Often times what may seem a little bad but manageable often progresses. If you give into peer pressure and temptation , then it often progresses (froma cermeonty to worship the king)
So King Nebuchadezzar brought them forth and expllained the consequences
BUT THEY STOOD WITH COURAGE TO DO WHATS RIGHT
Daniel 3:17–18 NRSV
If our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the furnace of blazing fire and out of your hand, O king, let him deliver us. But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods and we will not worship the golden statue that you have set up.”
We have to be unwavering in our convictiosn and faith no matter the threat.
You will encounter situations demanding the rejection of their beliefs, yet true courage is standing firm in faith even when it's costly
Matthew 16:24–26 NRSV
Then Jesus told his disciples, “If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will find it. For what will it profit them if they gain the whole world but forfeit their life? Or what will they give in return for their life?
Unwavering faith is the key to peer pressure with teh help of the Holy SPirit
John 16:8 NRSV
And when he comes, he will prove the world wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment:
At what cost are you willing to go for your faith and following Jesus
What are you willing to loose?
Fame? sports scholarship? Dreams ? Family, Self?

Embrace Deliverance

Daniel 3:19-30`
King Nebuchadnesszar is furious filled with rage . Despite acknowledgeGod who they serve
Furnace was heated 7 times hotter ( meaning as hot as it could go)
They were immediately thrown into the furnace as promised but catch this detail

21 So the men were bound, still wearing their tunics, their trousers, their hats, and their other garments, and they were thrown into the furnace of blazing fire. 22 Because the king’s command was urgent and the furnace was so overheated, the raging flames killed the men who lifted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. 23 But the three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, fell down, bound, into the furnace of blazing fire.

So the king relaizes there were 4 men in the furnace and he commanded them all to come out

27 And the satraps, the prefects, the governors, and the king’s counselors gathered together and saw that the fire had not had any power over the bodies of those men; the hair of their heads was not singed, their tunics were not harmed, and not even the smell of fire came from them

No smoke or hair touched

29 Therefore I make a decree: Any people, nation, or language that utters blasphemy against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego shall be torn limb from limb, and their houses laid in ruins; for there is no other god who is able to deliver in this way.” 30 Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the province of Babylon.

Facing temptation or peer pressure , can be a tetsimony of strength to yourself or others
THE whole area learned about who God was by withstanding the temptation to bow down and honro the king
“God wont give you anything you cant handle” is a misquted verse or saying
1 Corinthians 10:13 NLT
The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.
1 Corinthians 10:13 says, "No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability".
The verse also says that God will provide a way out of temptation so that people can endure it.
The verse is meant to comfort people, and to let them know that they should not be distressed by the prospect of temptatio

Where do you stand?

we have to ask ourself, are we willing to make our faith real and be willing to risk it all for the Lord even if its our life?
