Turn to and read Isaiah 40:8.
Reverend Haldor Lillenas was born in Norway in the year 1885. When Haldor was a little boy, his father sold their fifteen acre farm in Norway and they moved to the United States. They would try living in several states across the West as they attempted to start a new life in America. Haldor began writing songs at an early age and by his late high school years and early twenties, he began to sell a few of them. He became involved in rescue missions and this set the course for his entering full time ministry. While attending college, he met and married Bertha Mae Wilson. She was also a songwriter. In 1924, he founded the Lillenas Music Company. He would go on to write more than 4000 hymn lyrics including the song, “The Bible Stands.”
Verse 1
The Bible stands like a rock undaunted
'Mid the raging storms of time
Its pages burn with the truth eternal
And they glow with a light sublime
Chorus
The Bible stands
Though the hills may tumble
It will firmly stand
When the earth shall crumble
I will plant my feet on its firm foundation
For the Bible stands
Written during the 20th century, the song was penned during a time of increasing challenges to the authority of Scripture. Various intellectual and cultural movements were questioning the validity of the Bible. It’s likely that Lillenas wrote "The Bible Stands" as a response to those shifts, aiming to remind believers of the Bible’s permanence and truth.
What was bad in the 20th century has only gotten worse in the 21st century.
We live in a day where you can find so-called preachers and churches that hardly use the Bible! We live in a day where people, who call themselves Christians, regularly question and cast doubt on the Bible!
This series is intended as a rejection of that modern trend. The purpose of this series is to show the reasonableness of what we believe concerning the Bible and to explain why we at Cornerstone Independent Baptist Church look to the Bible as the sole authority for our lives.

This series is a study of the doctrine of bibliology: the doctrine of the Bible.
This series will accomplish at least the following objectives:
We will study what the Bible says about itself.
We will learn about the history of the Bible.
We will learn about the structure of the Bible.
We will learn important terms relating to the Bible, such as revelation, inspiration, preservation, canonization, illumination, and interpretation.
We will learn why we have chosen to use the King James Version at our church.
To begin this study, I’d like to raise and answer this question today:

How is the Bible distinctive from other books?
Get feedback. Get their answers.
I begin with this question to further emphasize why this series is so important. If the Bible is not distinct from other books, then it cannot be authoritative. If the Bible is distinct from other books, then it only stands to reason that we cherish it, study it, and obey it like none other!
Four evidences that the Bible is distinct from all other books:

The claims of Scripture
Read Isaiah 40:8.
Any book that has been authored by man cannot claim to stand forever.
If I go out and write a book someday, I’d like to think that it will last a while and that it will make an impact on people’s lives. It would be pretty nice if it would be a bestseller in my lifetime. It would be amazing if it outlives me and continues on to touch people’s lives long after I’ve gone to be with the Lord! But even if my book would do that, I’ll never be able to claim that my book will stand forever because I can’t guarantee that!
God can, and the God of the Bible has guaranteed that His Word will stand forever.
Notice in Isaiah 40:8, it says, “the word of our God will stand forever.”
It doesn’t say, “the word of a God”
It doesn’t say, “the word of islam’s God”
It doesn’t say, “the word of the gods”
No, it’s very specific. “The word of our God”. It is saying that the word of Jehovah, the God of Israel, the God of the Bible - His word will endure forever. It’s not going anywhere!
It’s an eternal book, distinct from all others.
God himself is making this claim through Isaiah the prophet.
Read Isaiah 40:1.

The confessions of men
Time after time, the prophets and the apostles referred to the Scriptures as the eternal, authoritative Word of God.

The changed lives
Alcoholics that have exchanged their liquor for the peace that only Jesus can give
People who once cut themselves now understand that they are fearfully and wonderfully made by a loving Creator.
Gay men that accepted Christ and embraced God’s design of male and female
You, Christian. Your life, submitted in obedience to the Scriptures, changed by the power of the Holy Spirit who indwells you, is an evidence that the Bible is distinct from all other books.
Application: Are you slowly being changed? If not, are you submitted?
