Title: Go after the kingdom.
Opening Scripture: Psalms 24:5-6
Psalm 24:5–6 NIV
They will receive blessing from the Lord and vindication from God their Savior. Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, God of Jacob.
Open: Have you ever set out to make a recipe and thought you had
everything you needed just to open your pantry and realize you were missing key
ingredients. (Share a story about a time you wanted to make something but didn’t
have the necessary ingredients.) Maybe you daydreamed all day about making the
perfect chocolate chip cookies just to realize you didn’t have any chocolate chips…so
frustrating!
• We can encounter these same frustrations in more serious life circumstances. Some of
you tonight may have the desire to live a godly life but feel like there are ingredients
missing.
-Did you know that God promises to meet every need we have in
our lives? As we seek Him, He guarantees that He will provide for every need.
• Scripture: Philippians 4:19-20 — God can meet every need because He is the source
that never runs out!
Psalm 24:5-6 — Contextualize this Scripture with what we’ve been covering
the past couple weeks in this series. We’ve been talking about seeking God! This
next portion of Psalm 24 makes it very clear that those who seek God will be blessed.
Week 1: Jenn talked about how God created everything, and that He uniquely created us to connect with Him, how we were created.
Week 2: Pastor Josh talked about pursuing God with a pure heart, and how to develop a pure heart in our lives.
Tonight we are talking about what it looks like to pursue God and the blessings that come from that.
One and only point: Pursuing the Lord brings blessings.
So what does this look like in our life? Matthew 6:33
Matthew 6:33 NIV
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
This is the solution, so how do we seek the kingdom?
1.) We develop trust in God, knowing he answers our needs.
-This means, that sometimes we don’t always get what we want, and often times it looks different. But God sees what we need, and just like a good dad He always comes through.
-Story of my dad providing. (My dad always provided for my family. I never had fear of lack. But as good as my dad was, God is even better at providing.)
2.) We always seek His righteousness.
-Last week we talked about how the pure in heart will see God, and that happens when we pursue a life of purity. Similar to purity, according to Matthew 6:33 when we seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness there’s a blessing that comes with it.
-The world will tempt you to try and seek other things that lead you deeper away from Gods kingdom.
-Share a story of what pursuing righteousness has looked like in my life.
Closing:
As we close and head into Family crews, I want to remind each of you that seeking Gods kingdom is worth everything we have. Don’t stop pursuing God. Let’s continue the conversation in family crews.
