As we prepare for our Lenten journey,
God invites us to transform our past ‘garbage’ into fuel for spiritual growth,
turning fractured relationships and personal struggles into energy for reconciliation and renewal.
Point of Relation
Point of Relation
Remember the movie, Back to the Future?
Marty McFly accidentally travels from 1985 to 1955 in Doc Brown’s DeLorean time machine.
After ensuring his parents fall in love and returning to 1985,
the film ends with Doc reappearing, urging Marty to come to 2015 (which is funny now that 2015 was 10 years ago.
In Back to the Future II, we discover Doc has upgraded the DeLorean.
Now, instead of plutonium, it runs on… garbage.
That’s right, a “Mr. Fusion Home Energy Reactor” turns household waste into fuel for time travel.
This isn’t just sci-fi fun - it’s a powerful metaphor for our spiritual journey.
As we prepare for Lent, we’re like Marty, standing at the threshold of a transformative journey.
Our past mistakes, regrets, and pain? They’re not just baggage - they’re potential fuel.
Just as Doc’s reactor turns trash into energy,
God can transform our past ‘garbage’ into spiritual power.
Those fractured relationships we explored in Joseph’s story?
That’s premium fuel. The detours and struggles? High-octane stuff.
As we gear up for our Lenten trek, let’s bring all of ourselves -
the good, the bad, the messy -
to God’s cosmic recycling plant.
In God’s hands, nothing goes to waste.
Every experience, every mistake, every hurt can be converted into energy for growth and reconciliation.
So, are you ready to fuel up your spiritual DeLorean
and hit 88 miles per hour into a transformative Lent?
Things to Consider
Things to Consider
As we gear up for Lent, pause at this reconciliation trailhead.
What broken paths in your life need mending?
How might God be using your current struggles as prep for something greater?
Who’s the Joseph in your life - that person you’ve written off?
Could this be the moment to bridge that gap?
Remember, detours often lead to breathtaking vistas.
What if your past pain is actually future provision?
Take a breath.
Now, are you ready to let God repack your spiritual backpack?
What Scripture Says
What Scripture Says
As we continue packing our spiritual backpacks for the Lenten wilderness ahead,
Genesis 45 offers us an unexpected item to consider: reconciliation.
Like hikers reviewing their maps before a challenging trek,
we find ourselves examining the story of Joseph and his brothers.
Joseph, once discarded by his siblings, now stands as Egypt’s savior.
As he reveals his identity, it’s as if a long-hidden trail suddenly becomes visible.
“I am Joseph,” he declares, his words bridging years of guilt and separation
like a sturdy rope across a ravine.
But this isn’t a detour into vengeance.
Instead, Joseph recognizes a greater route at work.
“God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant on earth
and to save your lives by a great deliverance,” he tells his stunned brothers.
This unexpected turn reminds us of Paul’s assurance in Romans 8:28:
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love God,
who have been called according to God’s purpose.”
As Joseph embraces Benjamin, weeping on his shoulders,
we witness the mending of torn relationships -
essential repair work before our journey begins.
The brothers, once frozen in fear, find their footing again.
Pharaoh’s generous response adds provisions to this reconciliation pack.
Jacob, hearing the news, experiences a revival of spirit -
like discovering an unexpected spring while planning a desert crossing.
These passages remind us that as we prepare for our Lenten trek,
even our past missteps can become valuable equipment for the path ahead.
God’s ability to work all things for good isn’t just a comforting thought -
it’s a reliable compass we can trust as we face the wilderness before us.
What This Means for You
What This Means for You
As you prep for Lent, what fractured relationships weigh you down?
Joseph’s story invites reconciliation. Past hurts?
They’re potential trail mix for the journey.
That argument might teach patience;
that betrayal, forgiveness.
God’s turning detours into shortcuts, s
tumbles into stepping stones.
Do a gear check:
Ditch the grudges.
Unresolved issues might be wilderness tools.
In God’s hands, messy moments become ministry.
What This Means for Us
What This Means for Us
As a community, we’re prepping for Lent’s wilderness.
Our shared baggage? Fractured relationships and conflicts.
But these aren’t burdens; they’re survival gear.
Together, we’ll turn collective hurts into strength.
Our past isn’t dead weight; it’s our grace map.
Let’s transform our mess into our message, trials into testimony.
Ready to repack our communal backpack? Let’s go.
Amen? Amen.
