Bible Passage: Zechariah 9:10-17
Bible Passage: Zechariah 9:10-17
Summary: In this passage, Zechariah prophesies the coming of a king who will bring peace and salvation, contrasting the worldly leaders with the true King who will rule in humility and righteousness.
Application: This sermon emphasizes the hope and peace that Jesus, the King, brings to our lives. It encourages believers to trust in His sovereignty and to seek His peace in times of trouble, reminding them that true victory comes through Christ, not through worldly means.
Teaching: The passage teaches us about the nature of God's kingdom, which is characterized by peace, humility, and deliverance. It challenges the audience to recognize the difference between worldly power and the divine authority of Christ as our King.
How this passage could point to Christ: In context, Zechariah's prophecy points to Jesus as the fulfillment of the promised King who brings peace (Isaiah 9:6-7) and restores God's people. Throughout the Scriptures, Jesus is revealed as the ultimate King who conquers sin and death, providing a kingdom not of this world but of eternal significance.
Big Idea: Jesus, our humble King, brings true peace and deliverance to a world in turmoil, urging us to place our trust in Him rather than in the fleeting power of this world.
Introduction: At the beginning of World War I, British author H.G. Wells published a book called The War That Will End War. On November 11, 1918, at the end of the great war, Prime Minister David Lloyd George said to the British Parliament, “At eleven o’clock this morning came to an end the cruelest and most terrible war that has ever scourged mankind. I hope we may say that thus, this fateful morning, came to an end all wars.” But Wells’ title proved wrong and Lloyd George’s wish was never fulfilled, for war is still with us.11 Warren W.
