this is the last ch in ephesians
and we are going to be talking about the relationship
between parents and their children
I want you guys to think about your relationship with your parents
is it good,
is it bad,
Q. How many of you have been told no by your parents and it felt like the end of the world????
Q. How many of you have been told by your parents to loose the attitude?
q. have you been told by them what you should do and then you were like ...What do you know.…
God is going to address the right way to have relationship to your parents
in a sense as to respect your elders
and to legitemately heed what they say to you
and we wills see it has a lot to do with submission
and respect
in the end it comes down to trusting in God
so that wether we agree or disagree with our parents ,
we want to obey God above all
and then trust that He will make our path straight
Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise: “that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.”
HEre we start with wisdom for children.…
Gods command to you is Obey your parents

obey - listen to and do what your told
and we see the specifics of the call to obey your parents.
there is a special relationship between children and parents
God has given your parents you as a gift
it is their job to raise you , sheppard you, teach you, protect you.…
its your job to listen to them
the verse also adds to obey them in the Lord
according to the Lord ----
this means if they tell you to sin… dont do it
you are not obligated to obey your parents to the end of stealing.…
however we are obligated to obey them even if we think its stupid.…
Who has overprotective parents.…
mom wouldnt let me jump off the 10 meter
i thought it was stupid but I listend
my brother did not
he climbed up and ..… climbed back down
now regardless of wether we agree or disagree we are to listen to and obey our parents
because it is right as the verse states..…
Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing to the Lord.

it is abnormal to be disobedient to your parents…
for one they wiped your but as a baby
they made sure you stayed aloive during your first 8 years
they have sacrificed and worked their butt of to raise you..…
throughout all cultures and generations, the basic truth of obedience to your parents has rung true.…
Q. no what if your parents are out of the picture.…
who is raising you? who is taking that parent role?
Q. what if they are not great parents.… you still obey them unless they ask you to sin.
now paul reminds us of the 5th commandment
“Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.
if anything this should show you how important this is to God.
honor- is to show respect
q. have you ever shown your parents disrespect?
it is so vitally important to respect your parents as your superior.
you are not on equal ground with them
not in the sense of value to God
but in the sense of position… they are over you
and it is so sad to see the level of disrespect from children
Q. Have you guys seen it in public?
little kids demanding their parents
talking back, acting a fool
did you know that disobedience to parents is a sign of the end times
But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good,
christian this ought not to even be mentioned before you
repent from your disrespect to your parents
because it is wicked in the sight of God
S. when I see a kid being disrespectful to their parents
I always think .… you never got a butt whooping and it shows.…
He who spares his rod hates his son, But he who loves him disciplines him promptly.
not only is it beneficial to obey and honor your parents
because it is pleasing to God
but it is also for your benefit
obedience to parents leads to blessing
obedience to parents leads to blessing
this commandment leads to blessing
that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth
now this is not a gurantee---this is a general promise
obedience to your parents will lead to good fruit and long life
HOW?
obedient children will heed their parents warning of danger .
My son, keep your father’s command, And do not forsake the law of your mother.
What are some wise warnings your parents gave you?
dont jump off the high dive , dont swim in the lakes in florida , teach you to swim
B. another reason obedient children will be spared is from bad habits and friends
there are so many warnings I wish I would have listened to when I was younger.…
you may not like them at the time but if you listen you will save yourself a lot of pain
q. who has got the warning of bad friends
Q, What habits have your parents warned you about?
drinking, smoking, sex

they had a tv show called 16 and pregnant
1 in 4 teens will contract an std this year
roughly 10% of all abortions come from high school students
do you see how obedience to your parents warning will keep you from trouble and prolong your life…
when you commit to obeying and respecting your parents,
you are also going to build healhty character habits
Q. WHo does extra cirricular things?
did your parents play a role in encouraging you?
your building good character.…
now we are not letting the parents off the hook right …
God has a command for them
because you know what…
your parents are flawed too.
God knows that it is tempting for you to disobey your parents
therefore He commands obedience …
He also knows it is tempting for fathers to instigate their children
and act like a dictator
so God writes
And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.
God is very interested in How we parent...
He singles out fathers ,, not to parent in a way that will provoke....
this is doing and saying things that generate a response of anger
think of taunting..…
or do what I say and shut up.
this is very easy for parents to just scare their kids
into obedience instead of teaching them
then it creates resentment in the relationship …
this happens through unreasonableness.…
putting too much on your kids
always putting your kid down
q. who has seen parents talk to their kids in this way...
baseball
sometimes I dont think parents understand the impact they have on their kids
the anger I felt that my dad left my mom and brother.… crazy..
the inconsistencies of parents and neglect
can lead children to anger and major issues…
This is why the family unit is so important…
Im thankful that I have taken the anger I had
I gave it to God
and made sure I was better as a father to my kids
A father of the fatherless, a defender of widows, Is God in His holy habitation.
after He warns fathers not to provoke their children, He gives a possitive command
instead raise them with discipline and instruction in the Lord
When you are a father or mother for that matter
make it your priority to raise your kids with discipline and instruction in the LOrd
maybe your parents are not living up to this command?
or maybe they are doing a great job?
whatever the case, make sure that YOU raise your children in the Lord.

When you are parents,
make sure to prioritize the Lord in your family
I am fully convinced the maturity of the church
depends on the family unit
PArents must raise strong christians
and then their kids must raise strong christians
be gentle with your children
but not weak.…
discipline your kids
Do not withhold correction from a child, For if you beat him with a rod, he will not die. You shall beat him with a rod, And deliver his soul from hell.
discipline and train them
and raise them in the truth of the Lord
“And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.
this is the Lords command..…
your children our one of your biggest responsibilities
teach God dilligently to your children!!!!!!!!!!!
learn of Him now in preperation…
and I want to close with this…
obedienceto our parents must reflect and translate to our father in heaven
obey your parents as you obey God.…
all for His glory
and your good.
