So Christ has now become the High Priest over all the good things that have come. He has entered that greater, more perfect Tabernacle in heaven, which was not made by human hands and is not part of this created world. With his own blood—not the blood of goats and calves—he entered the Most Holy Place once for all time and secured our redemption forever.
The Lord’s Supper is a time to recognize that Jesus shed His blood so we could be forgiven from sin, once and for all.

In the Old Testament(covenant) only the high priest could enter the Holy of Holies and only once a year(Yom Kippur) to offer a sacrifice that would temporarily cover the sins of the people and give then a clear conscience until sin entered their life again.

When Christ died on the cross, the curtain that separated the rest of the temple from the Holy of Holies was torn in two. His blood was the perfect sacrifice. Because He is both the sacrifice and the High Priest, it was a once and for all act. So now and forever any who give their lives over to Christ have access to the presence of God and complete forgiveness of sins.

The Lord’s Supper proclaims that the only way to remove ALL those sins was for the perfect person to die and shed His blood for us.

Under the old system, the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer could cleanse people’s bodies from ceremonial impurity. Just think how much more the blood of Christ will purify our consciences from sinful deeds so that we can worship the living God. For by the power of the eternal Spirit, Christ offered himself to God as a perfect sacrifice for our sins.
Under the Old Covenant the sacrifice offered a temporary clearing of their conscience. It was a sacrifice of animals that would otherwise serve as food for the people. It gave the people a short term feeling of being accepted by the God, who they could not mention the name of.

Christ’s sacrifice was perfect and eternal. It was not done once a year and temporary. His blood was not from an animal but from Himself. His sacrifice brings us into a relationship with “The Living God”. It was a once and for all and eternal act of love.

That is why he is the one who mediates a new covenant between God and people, so that all who are called can receive the eternal inheritance God has promised them. For Christ died to set them free from the penalty of the sins they had committed under that first covenant.

He doesn’t just bring to us today a new Covenant, this covenant covers even the sins under the old covenant. So there is nobody who ever lived who can’t be free from the penalty of sin and death.

That is why the Tabernacle and everything in it, which were copies of things in heaven, had to be purified by the blood of animals. But the real things in heaven had to be purified with far better sacrifices than the blood of animals.
For Christ did not enter into a holy place made with human hands, which was only a copy of the true one in heaven. He entered into heaven itself to appear now before God on our behalf.
The old covenant allowed only the high priest access to the Holy of Holies and that was just once a year. Even at that it was not the true Holy of Holies is was just a copy.

And he did not enter heaven to offer himself again and again, like the high priest here on earth who enters the Most Holy Place year after year with the blood of an animal. If that had been necessary, Christ would have had to die again and again, ever since the world began. But now, once for all time, he has appeared at the end of the age to remove sin by his own death as a sacrifice.
And just as each person is destined to die once and after that comes judgment, so also Christ was offered once for all time as a sacrifice to take away the sins of many people. He will come again, not to deal with our sins, but to bring salvation to all who are eagerly waiting for him.
Under the old covenant a sacrifice had to be offered every year. The New Covenant through Christ is a once and for all sacrifice.

If we were all under the old covenant we would all face a judgement that would lead to eternal death, instead the New Covenant has been sealed by the blood of Christ and our sins are “no more”, giving us entrance into heaven. (see Revelation 21:1-5)

That also gives us a ticket to the greatest event which will ever happen; the return of Christ and the final chapter of our salvation and the salvation of ALL who have given their life to Him and wait for His promises to be fulfilled.
