Psalm 79:9 (ESV)
Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of your name; deliver us, and atone for our sins, for your name’s sake!

RTL: All this talk about Glory, and we never dig deeper

1. God is glorious. We merely reflect glory

We talk about fame and glory as those things which are earned, taken away, or built upon.
This is not true of God
By definition God is glorious - He has glory, regardless of what we think, say, or do
Everyone’s favorite quarterback to hate - Tom Brady
Ascribe the glory due His name - not give Him glory of which He is undeserving
Recognize the glory that He has

2. God is glorified in our redemption

“In order for God to be for us at all, He must be first and foremost for Himself” - Piper
The prayer of Psalm 79:9 “Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of your name; deliver us, and atone for our sins, for your name’s sake!”
Not “save us bc we are great”
Save us because you are great and others will se it.
a. In the act of forgiveness
What great mercy and grace and love that evil, wretched men and women are forgiven by the holy God.
b. in the act of sanctification
When we share in Christ’s victory over sin (cf. Colossians 1:22 “he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him,” )
When we are seen to be holy by those who have not tasted the holiness of God

3. God is glorified in our proclamation

a. When we sing songs
We are reminding ourselves and proclaiming to those around us the wonder and glory of God
b. When we tell of our testimony
we are proclaiming God’s mercy and grace
Telling about out significant others, or our children
c. In our evangelism

Application:

Seek to reflect the glory of God to those around you
Take your salvation seriously
Proclaim God’s work joyfully
