Deuteronomy 32:2

Doctrine means - The act or result of teaching.

I. Teaching Bible Doctrine will do these things.

It’s Purpose is to Clarify.
2 Timothy 3:10 “But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience,”
John 18:19-20 is something that was believed and practiced. We should do the same.
It’s Purpose is to Correct.
2 Timothy 3:16 “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:”
Once we know what the “scripture” of v.16 is (see v.15) then we can have doctrine that from the inspired word.
2 Timothy 4:2–3 “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;”
The time spoken of in v.3 is now.
It’s Purpose is to Convince.
Titus 1:9 “Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.”
The only way to convince the gainsayers is by sound doctrine.
It’s Purpose is to Convict.
Titus 2:10 “Not purloining, but shewing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things.”
“purloining” - literally stealing. We see this change when a person learns the doctrine of “God our Saviour” and puts that into practice (“in all things”)

II. Preaching Bible Doctrine will do these things.

It’s Purpose is to keep us from being Childish.
Hebrews 6:1 “Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,”
When a person gets saved we should go on to maturity, not sin.
It’s Purpose is to keep us from Cults.
2 John 9–10 “Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. 10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:”
This shows us how to handle the cults.
It’s purpose is to keep us from Catholicism.
Revelation 2:14–15 “But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication. 15 So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate.”
This doctrine of the Nicolaitans was simply a division between the pastor (clergy) and the people (laity) as to rule the people from a heirarchy. (Illus--the strange man we met that was Episcopal/Charismatic).
This can also be seen in many denominations.
