[Announce text] Greetings, everyone. I am glad you are here. Today marks the eighth and final week of our sermon series, Unveiling the Kingdom. In this series, Jesus unveils his identity, mission, and the values of God’s kingdom, inviting us to follow him. Every week, we turn to another portion of Scripture in the Gospels when Jesus reveals God’s kingdom to those who desire to see it.
[Scripture introduction] If you brought a bible, please open it to the gospel of Luke. We will be reading from Luke 9:28-36 about the transfiguration of Jesus Christ on the mountain.
[Reannounce and read text] It is in this scene within Luke’s gospel where Christ’s disciples and you and I receive a preview of the glory of God in Christ. Let’s read together Luke’s gospel on the transfiguration of Jesus in Luke 9:28-36.
[Prayer for illumination] Heavenly Father, we pray for your divine words to work wonders in our lives and we can begin to catch a glimpse of your glory. Illuminate our minds to receive everything you desire for us today. We ask this in Jesus’s holy name. Amen.
[Introduction]
[FCF] We long for glory without hardship—victory without cost, recognition without humility, and blessings without trials. Like Peter, we would rather remain in moments of glory than face the road of suffering. Yet, the Transfiguration reveals that God's true glory is not found apart from suffering, but through it—culminating in Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection.
[Scripture bond] As Luke’s gospel tells us about the Transfiguration, what does God in Christ desire for you and I to witness in this story? Jesus isn’t afraid to reveal his divine identity and dying mission to those he love. In the end, Jesus doesn’t want to only keep up on the mountain full of God’s glory, but take us to a real-world destination. A place where God continues to transform you day-by-day.
What this gospel clearly teaches you and I is that...
[Proposition] The glory of God is yours when you follow with Jesus to the cross.
