A Matter of Trust
A Matter of Trust
Good morning
So glad everyone is back, and I hope you had a great week
I told you last week that each week I was going to ask you a question
How did you see God move or work this past week?
A I said last week i believe the more we know and know about the more we will recognize him in our daily lives
A Matter of Trust
A Matter of Trust
As we have been studying, we have focused on the names o God that described his all encompassing power and sovereignty.
I want to get into the more personal and interactive names of God that again shows the depths of who He is.
But first a few things.
Jehovah = Yahweh
When you hear the name Jehovah - this is basically another translation of Yahweh
This is God’s sacred name but also His personal and covenantal name with Israel.
It was the name told to Moses when he asked who shall I say sent me.
It became so sacred to the Jews, they rarely spoke this name but replaced it with something like Adonai as to not to accidentally use it in vane.
The next thing I want to ask, and it may sound of topic is:
How do you show trust?
This something we are hopefully gong to answer today and catch another glimpse into God heart and character.
Let’s pray.
Trust and Obey
What is the craziest thing someone asked you to do?
Tower in basic training
We have been looking a lot into Abraham and some of his interactions with God
We know the story - God promised to make a great nation out of Abraham to be a blessing to whole world
But, Abraham and Sarah had no children - tried to help the promise along, but God reminded them that it would be there son that would be the child of the promise.
God kept His promise and Isaac was born.
1 After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” 2 He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” 3 So Abraham rose early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and his son Isaac. And he cut the wood for the burnt offering and arose and went to the place of which God had told him.
This did n’t make sense - but that is where trust comes in
Trust begins with a step of obedience
3 So Abraham rose early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and his son Isaac. And he cut the wood for the burnt offering and arose and went to the place of which God had told him.
It continues
4 On the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes and saw the place from afar. 5 Then Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; I and the boy will go over there and worship and come again to you.” 6 And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son. And he took in his hand the fire and the knife. So they went both of them together. 7 And Isaac said to his father Abraham, “My father!” And he said, “Here I am, my son.” He said, “Behold, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” 8 Abraham said, “God will provide for himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.” So they went both of them together.
Trust builds with faith in the promises
5 Then Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; I and the boy will go over there and worship and come again to you.”
Abraham believed he was coming back with his son - why/
God promised to build a nation through his offspring and specifically Issac
Trust acts on faith
9 When they came to the place of which God had told him, Abraham built the altar there and laid the wood in order and bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. 10 Then Abraham reached out his hand and took the knife to slaughter his son. 11 But the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” 12 He said, “Do not lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him, for now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.”
Trust realizes the source of everything
13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him was a ram, caught in a thicket by his horns. And Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son. 14 So Abraham called the name of that place, “The Lord will provide”; as it is said to this day, “On the mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”
Jehovah-Jireh
14 So Abraham called the name of that place, “The Lord will provide”; as it is said to this day, “On the mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”
Our provider - or better translation is the God who sees provides
It is one thing to believe in God; it is quite another to believe God.

31 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
God is a provider of needs not necessarily wants
33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
God will provide all we need to bring Him glory
We have to trust whatever that looks like
We step because we know the promises
We act and experience Him as the source of everything
We know Him as Jehovah-Jireh
Let’s pray.
