Zechariah 10

Summary: Zechariah 10 speaks of God’s promise to restore His people from exile, calling them back to Himself and emphasizing His care for them as a shepherd. It reveals God's intention to provide strength, assurance, and hope even in times of adversity.

Introduction: This passage has a very strong millennial message in which the passage foreshadows Christ as the Good Shepherd who cares for HIs flock. Through His death, burial, and resurrection we experience true restoration and hope in Him.
If you were to drive most major cities in America, you would find homelessness abounds. Some are homeless because they thought hope and joy is found in a pill or bottle. Here in this passage is where hope and peace is. He is calling Israel to Himself so He can show His shepherding care.

1. Plead for Provision

Zechariah 10:1-2
A. God’s faithful provision.
1. The prophet here is emphasizing God’s provision of rain.
2. This is a reminder as we seek Him, as a Good Shepherd, He provides
our necessities.
Psalm 37:25–26 KJV 1900
I have been young, and now am old; Yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, Nor his seed begging bread. He is ever merciful, and lendeth; And his seed is blessed.
3. Please notice the prophet is highlighting the faithful provision of God.
B. God’s sufficient power.
1. While the pagan nations look to their false gods who divine lies and
give false prophesies.
2. God does not lie to His people.
3. Jesus is the ever present, good shepherd who does not forsake His
people.
4. When struggles, difficulties, and uncertainties arise, our hope should
be directed to God who is willing and able.
5. Don’t allow yourself to follow a false shepherd.

2. Protection from False Shepherds

Zechariah 10:3-5
A. God’s anger against false shepherds
1. God is angry with the lies and empty promises.
2. God will punish them and deal with them.
B. God’s protection with the good shepherd
1. God is committed to restoring His flock v.3b
2. Here is a reminder the Good Shepherd protects and leads His
people.
3. False shepherds will lead their flocks astray but the Good
Shepherd will be led and protected.
4. He will give them victory over their enemies because He is with them.
5. The cornerstone speaks of Christ the foundation, the keystone that
joins the walls, and the tent peg refers to the Messiah as one whom
burdens may be placed.
6. Jesus is the victorious Warrior who never loses a battle.

3. Promise of Power

Zechariah 10:6-7
A. Restored strength v. 6
1. The emphasis here will be on the strong and mighty men because the
Lord is with His people to trample their enemies.
2. God will restore His promises and give them peace here.
3. Jesus is the Lord who gives absolute restoration.
B. Restored joy v. 7
1. This a reminder to us that true joy comes the Lord.
2. The victory over the enemies brings joy which shall be to their
children.
3. Their rejoicing is in the Lord-you may rejoice in this world but you
can rejoice in the Lord.
4. God has already given us restoration.

4. Purpose in Gathering

Zechariah 10:8-10
A. The unity in the millennium
1. God will gather and bring together His people.
2. There will be one nation brought together through the strength of
Jesus Christ.
3. They will be separated unto God as God’s people.
B. The identity in the millennium
1. Our strength is found in our collective identity in Christ.
2. They are like pilgrims as well and God is going bring His people into
His place of identity and flock.

5. Path to Triumph

Zechariah 10:11-12
A. Promise of His presence
1. Notice the challenges that comes in life, God will lead His people
through them.
Psalm 23:4 KJV 1900
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
2. The challenges that come in our lives, God will provide victory over
these-He is the Good Shepherd.
B. Promise of His victory
1. Christ’s victory secures a victorious pathway with HIm.
2. Even though we may not understand all that God does is doing, we
can be sure His path is always one to victory.
Conclusion: Christ’s redemptive work on the cross assures us the promise of His blessings.
