The Power Of Word’s
03/02/25
This month we’re starting a
new series called.
The Power Of Word’s
Matthew 12:34–37
Joke: A preacher once said, “Before you speak, ask yourself: Is it kind? Is it necessary? Is it true?”
Someone in the congregation whispered, “If I did that, I’d never say anything!”
Joke: A woman was known for talking too much. One day, she asked her husband, “Why don’t you ever tell me when I talk too much?”
He smiled and said, “Because I can never get a word in!”
Word’s, we all used them everyday. Some more than other’s, but we all take the same 26 letter’s of our alphabet, and make 10’s of 1000’s of word.
We have heard that women speak more word’s than men, so I looked it up. Here’s what I found.
The commonly cited claim is that women speak about 20,000 words per day, while men speak around 7,000 words per day.
However, a scientific research suggests the difference is much smaller.
A study published by Dr. Matthias Mehl and his team found that both men and women speak roughly 16,000 words per day on average, with individual variations being much greater than gender-based differences. Some people, regardless of gender, are naturally more talkative than others.
Now in sayin that, I heard this, if the first part is true:
They say men speak 7,000 words a day and women speak 20,000 words a day. The difference?
Women have to repeat themselves because men aren’t listening!
Jesus had some pretty strong things to say to the Pharisees, and I think we can learn from what He is saying.
Matthew 12:34–37 (NKJV) 34 Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? *For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks*. 35 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. 36 But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. 37 For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”
Here’s a couple quotes that line up with this scripture.
Unknown – “Be careful with your words. Once they are said, they can be only forgiven, not forgotten.”
Napoleon Hill – “Think twice before you speak, because your words and influence will plant the seed of either success or failure in the mind of another.
Isn’t that the truth.  What and effect our words can have on other’s, but I have found that they can have a great effect on us, also.
In this series we’re going to see the effect that words have on us and other’s.
1 Peter 3:10–12 (NKJV) 10 For “He who would love life And see good days, Let him refrain his tongue from evil, And his lips from speaking deceit. 11 Let him turn away from evil and do good; Let him seek peace and pursue it. 12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their prayers; But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”
Look at verse 10 with me from a couple different translation’s.
1 Peter 3:10 (NLT) 10 For the Scriptures say, “If you want to enjoy life and see many happy days, keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies.
1 Peter 3:10 (MSG) 10 Whoever wants to embrace life and see the day fill up with good, Here’s what you do: Say nothing evil or hurtful;
Proverbs 16:24 (NKJV) Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, Sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.
I don’t know about you but I take the Bible as my handbook of life, and if it show’s me how to have a good and blessed life, I’m going to Do It in my life. Amen!
Mother Teresa – “Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.”
Blaise Pascal – “Kind words do not cost much. Yet they accomplish much.”
Robin Sharma – “Words can inspire. And words can destroy. Choose yours well.”
Words (Our Speech), In the book of Proverbs There are over 150 verses on words and the use of our tongues. In other words, almost one of every six verses is on how we speak!
We all heard this verse before, but have we heard this verse.
Proverbs 18:21 (NKJV) 21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.
We read this verse, but today, I want to say, do we do this verse.
Proverbs 18:21 (TPT) 21 Your words are so powerful that they will kill or give life, and the talkative person will reap the consequences.
Proverbs 18:21 (NLT) 21 The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.
I believe that each of us can take a little time this week and listen to ourselves.  Are our words bringing life to other’s.  Do I watch what I say or do I just let it go whenever.
Look at what King David said about his mouth.
Psalm 141:3 (NKJV) 3 Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips.
Psalm 141:3 (TPT) 3 God, give me grace to guard my lips from speaking what is wrong.
James 3:1–10 (NKJV) 1 My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment. 2 For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body. 3 Indeed, we put bits in horses’ mouths that they may obey us, and we turn their whole body. 4 Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires. 5 Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles! 6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell. 7 For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. 8 But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. 9 With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. 10 Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.
Bits and rudders are very small, but they have power to direct. They affect the lives of others. A runaway horse or a shipwreck could mean the death of many people. The German battleship Bismark, was eventually destroyed in WW 2 because of a damaged rudder. If a rudder is unattended, the ship will flounder without direction and eventually crash into the rocks of the shore. When our tongue is out of control like an unattended rudder, it will bring disaster. For this reason we need the Lord’s direction in our lives. The tongue is very small, yet powerful. If we can control it, we can control the whole body. Our words lead to deeds.
