This Week: “How to Receive Anything from God”

Have you ever felt like it is difficult to get what you want or need from God?
Maybe you have felt like things just “Kind of Happen” sometimes and sometimes they don’t.
Some of us don’t even know how to receive a compliment or a generous gift from someone.
How can we receive from a God we do not always see?
I believe that we ALL believe that God has more for us than we are living and experiencing.
Today I’d like to share with you the super simple mechanism that always works to receive what God wants to pour out to you - Healing, miracles, breakthrough, overcoming obstacles, brand new things in life, etc.
Many people & many Christians seem to arrive at the conclusion that God is mysterious and that you can never really know if you will receive anything from God.
The Bible is the written, clear & true picture of God and His plans for us.
Let’s see what the Bible says about the mechanism by which we can consistently receive what God wants for us.
The simplest way that I know how to state it is that:
Everything in the Kingdom of God happens by grace through faith!
It is the exact same way that we receive salvation.
Ephesians 2:8–9 NKJV
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.
Romans 10:9–10 NKJV
that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
If you have received Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you are “Saved”!
But how do you KNOW that you are saved?
Because you trusted & believed what God said - because it is impossible for God to lie (Num. 23:19 ; Heb. 6:18)
God’s character is perfect, so you can trust Him & know that He will do what He says.

What is Faith?

Having absolute confidence, in your innermost being, that what God says He will do (to completion) is what faith is.
Hebrews 11:1 HCSB
Now faith is the reality of what is hoped for, the proof of what is not seen.
Hebrews 11:1 AMP
NOW FAITH is the assurance (the confirmation, the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses].
Faith is the title deed!
Faith is the confident assurance of the outcome!
Some people say, I don’t have enough faith...but the Bible says you have all the faith you need!
Romans 12:3 NKJV
For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.
How much faith do I have?
Enough faith to receive salvation!
Romans 10:13 NKJV
For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
If you can receive salvation, you can receive ANYTHING from God!
Romans 8:32 NKJV
He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?
Faith gives us access to everything that God has!
Romans 5:1–2 NKJV
Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
This is why we encourage, bribe, pressurize, etc everyone to read their Bible - because we know that :
Romans 10:17 NKJV
So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
The word of God is not just the written word (Logos), but it is the spoken word (Rhema) of God.
Luke 4:4 NKJV
But Jesus answered him, saying, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.’ ”
The living, God-breathed, God-spoken word that comes alive in our heart is what generates faith!
Some people read their Bibles in Hebrew, some in Greek. I like to read mine in the Holy Ghost. - Smith Wigglesworth.
Remember, the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Life in Christ!
2 Corinthians 3:6 NKJV
who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
When God speaks His word to your spirit, THAT word comes alive to you & generates living, active faith!
Faith is the access card to God’s Divine Ability!

What is Grace?

Grace is (definitions):
The Divine impression upon the heart and its reflection in the life.
The undeserved favor of God.
The Divine ability of God.
Here’s what the Heavenly transaction looks like:
Ephesians 2:8 NKJV
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,
Grace is the tool - Faith is the Power Source of Heaven!
Grace is not able to be activated or accessed without Faith
Faith without Grace cannot effectively make anything happen.
Love is the Extension cord of Heaven that connects faith to grace!
Galatians 5:6 NKJV
For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love.
If there is anything we should believe for, it is to hear God speak His word to our spirit!
Anything that is in the word of God becomes real, possible, accessible, and active when that word comes alive in our heart by God’s Spirit!
This is why someone else’s faith, revelation, or understanding doesn’t do anything in YOUR life.
YOU need to receive faith from God’s word.
When you get faith, you can connect to grace & the resulting effects are God’s doing - not our work, or we could boast in how powerful we are.

Just One Thing:

Seek the word of God that comes alive in your heart by the Holy Spirit!

Discussion Questions:

What’s the most interesting building you’ve ever seen or been in?
What did you learn from this sermon that you didn’t know before, really helped your understanding, and/or was a great reminder to you. Please share a little bit.
Please read Luke 4:4 and Hebrews 4:12 (maybe read a few translations) and share what these verses mean to you in the context of this sermon.
Please share at least one time when the written word of God has “come alive” in your heart and you knew you had received faith from God as a result. If you have never experienced this, take the opportunity to pray with your Connect Group to have this experience from God.
