Start by telling stories of the deadliest structural failures of buildings
In the east of London , on May 16 , 1968 , a single match triggered the collapse of an entire corner of this massive 22 - storey building . Ivy Hodge , a 56 year old cake decorator living on the 18th floor , got up early to make herself a cup of tea . However , she got a lot more than she bargain for , when miss Hodge lit her stove , the spark from the match triggered a massive devastating gas explosion . The blast tore to the joints connecting the walls to the floor and threw her to the ground .The load bearing walls came apart , leaving the four apartments above her without any kind of structural support . one by one they came down tearing through the floors below like dominoes until an entire corner of the building lay in ruins . The building was in fact new , its construction complete just five days prior to the collapse .Wen Rona point came tumbling down , 260 people were residence . Surprisingly , only four were killed in the disaster, while 17 were injured .
What key event triggered the structural failure in the London building mentioned in the sermon?
On November 15 , 2010 , monsoon rains and a swollen river proved too much for a poorly constructed tenement building in New Delhi , India . Tragically , 67 people died in the collapse and a further 150 were in injured . The Multi - story building housed around 400 migrant workers from rural parts of eastern India . With most earning barely enough to cover basic costs , They had turn to living in crowded , illegally built apartment blocks . Sixty - seven tenants of this New Deli building paid the price with their lives when the structure were crashed to the ground without warning at 8:00 pm . Rescuers uses snipper dog in an attempt to discover survivors in the wreckage and pounded to large pieces of building with jackhammers . Bodies were pulled from twisted remains all night long , with anxious family members standing by , waiting to hear the news dead or alive .
Why good foundation is so important in any structure ?
ex) The deepest foundation ever recorded was for the Twin’s Tower of Malaysia — 122 meters
ex) Tallest building - Burj Khalifa in Dubai - 50 meters
When you build a weak foundation , disaster , devastation , and many lives will be lost and you cannot bring them back .
Jesus said in the scripture , read Luke 6:46–49 “And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say? Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.”
What does Luke 6:46–49 teach about the importance of building a foundation?
Every believer is a builder , WE BUILD :
1- FAMILY - What kind of foundation we build to our family ?
Do we build a foundation of love ? Do we build the foundation harmony ?
Do we build the foundation of trust ? How about the foundation that JESUS is the center of our relationship..
What steps can you take to ensure that your family is built on a solid foundation of love and trust?
Think of the ancient builders who would test the ground before constructing magnificent temples or homes. They understood the importance of a strong foundation, knowing that a slight miscalculation could lead to catastrophic failure. In our lives, laying a strong foundation means carefully choosing the principles of God's Word to guide our actions and decisions. When we ground ourselves in faith, we prepare for the storms, ensuring that our lives stand tall and unwavering against adversity.
In a small village, a tree grew near a river, its roots intertwining with the banks. During droughts, the tree remained vibrant while others withered away. Its foundation, nourished by the river, illustrated how vital a deep, spiritual foundation is in our lives. Just as that tree draws strength from the water, we must draw strength from our relationship with God—when nourished with His Word, we can thrive even in difficult seasons, showing resilience to those around us.
REMEMBER !!! In every foundation we build in our lives there is a consequence whether this is good or bad.
We can only build a strong foundation through obedience to our Lord Jesus Christ .
It is a vain thought to flee from the work that God appoints us, for the sake of finding a greater blessing, instead of seeking it where alone it is to be found—in loving obedience.
George Eliot
The best measure of a spiritual life is not its ecstasies but its obedience.
Oswald Chambers (Lecturer and Missionary)
Obedience is the end of our calling.
John Calvin (French Reformer)
The Christian life begins with obedience, depends on obedience, and results in obedience.
Charles Colson
In 1 samuel 15 : 22 says Obedience is better than sacrifice…
King James Version Chapter 3
5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart;
And lean not unto thine own understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him,
And he shall direct thy paths.
WHEN FLOOD COMES and STRONG CURRENTS OF LIFE
YOU WILL NOT BE MOVED WHY ? BECAUSE OF YOUR OBEDIENCE AND YOU LISTEN TO WHAT JESUS SAYS
1- What kind of floods are YOU experiencing right now ?
2 - What kind of storms of life you are struggling ?
3 - Does your foundation being shaken because of poor structure that you build in your life ?
4- HOW is your relationship with your MASTER ?
5- Is he the driver of your life or the passenger ?
WHEN HE SAID , DRIVE STRAIGHT BUT YOU GO LEFT. WHEN HE SAID , STOP !!! BUT YOU KEEP GOING …
Many times we say we love him and yet we don’t follow him we follow us , we claim we are christian and yet we are no different from the unbelievers.
I HAVE THE ANSWER FOR YOU < JESUS SAID , OBEY AND LISTEN TO HIM
IF YOU BUILD YOUR TRUST TO HIM EVEN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STORM HE CAN GET YOU THROUGH .
CONCLUSION :
CHURCH !!! TODAY IS THE DAY TO OBEY GOD NOT TOMORROW , TODAY ! IS THE DAY BUILDING OUR FOUNDATION IN SOLID ROCK THAT NO STORM CAN SHOOK NO MATTER HOW STRONG THE STORMS OF YOUR LIFE.
TODAY ! IS THE DAY OF REPENTANCE ,TODAY IS THE DAY OF SALVATION
