I. What The Scoffers Say About The Second Coming (vv. 1-4)

A. There will be scoffers (vv. 1-3)

• Reminded by stirring your minds (v. 1)

• Reminded of what prophets & apostles said (v. 2)

• Reminded about the scoffers (v. 3)

B. Say: "Where is the promise of his coming?" (v. 4)

• Hasn't happened yet - "Where is promise...?"

• No change - "all things continue as were"

II. The Lord Will Come (vv. 5-10, 15)

A. Scoffers are willingly ignorant (vv. 5-9)

• Abrupt changes in the beginning (vv. 5-7)

• Time doesn't make the promise void (v. 8)

• The Lord is not slack, but longsuffering (vv. 9, 15)

B. Unexpected & Sudden (v. 10)

III. How We Should Live In View Of The Second Coming (vv. 11-14)

A. Long for it (vv. 12-14)

• “looking for” (v. 12)

• “hastening” (v. 12)

• “look for” (v. 13)

• “looking forward” (v. 14)

B. Live for it (vv. 11-14)

• Holy (v. 11) - set apart - separated from sin

• Godly (v. 11) -piety, reverence toward God

• Diligent (v. 14) - exert every effort in eagerness

• Peaceful (v. 14) - seeking peace with God and man

• Pure (v. 14) - free from sin / in action and thought

• Blameless (v. 14) - cannot be condemned

IV. Don't Be Led Away By False Teachers (vv.16-18)

A. The Problem: Some who wrest the scriptures (v. 16)

B. The Danger: Beware - you could be led away (v. 17)

C. The Answer: How to prevent it (v. 18)
