Glorification
Glorification
Main Text: Romans 8:18 – “The sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.”
For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.
I. Introduction:
Justification – Removes penalty of sin.
Sanctification – Breaks power of sin.
Glorification – Removes presence of sin forever.
The Greek word for Glorification (Glory) means to give honor, splendor, or majesty.
II. The Promise of Glorification
For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.
Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.
Glorification occurs at Christ’s return - Colossians 3:4
When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.-
For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:
Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.
We will have glorified, resurrected bodies.
III. What Happens When a Believer Dies?
When a believer dies, their soul immediately enters God’s presence, but their body remains in the grave until the resurrection.
A. The Soul Goes to Be with Christ
2 Corinthians 5:8 – “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.”
We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.
The moment a believer dies, they are consciously with Christ.
Philippians 1:23 – “My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better.”
For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:
Paul acknowledges that after death, believers are in Christ’s presence.
B. The Body Rests in the Grave
Ecclesiastes 12:7 – “The dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.”
The physical body decays, but the spirit lives on.
IV. What Happens at Glorification?
A. The Resurrection of the Body
1 Corinthians 15:42-44 – Our body will be imperishable, powerful, and spiritual.
So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption:
It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power:
It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.
Luke 24:39 – Jesus’ resurrected body was physical yet glorified.
Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.
B. Freedom from Sin and Death
Revelation 21:4 – No more tears, death, or pain.
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
Romans 8:21 – Creation itself will be set free.
Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
V. The Significance of Glorification
The Restoration of What Was Lost in the Fall
Genesis 3:19 – Sin brought death.
1 Corinthians 15:54-55 – Glorification reverses death.
Glorification is our final victory
We will receive glorified, resurrected bodies.
Sin and death will be completely removed.
We will see God face to face and reign with Him.
Our reminder...Our current struggles are nothing compared to the glory ahead.
Glorification assures us that suffering is temporary
Romans 8:18 – “The sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.”
VI. Conclusion:
Maybe you are here this morning and you are going through a difficult season in your life. I want to encourage you to not give up, because we have hope in the promise of Glorification.
Encourage others with the hope of glorification.
