Bible Reading Week 10 (2nd Sunday) Baptism Sunday
This Week’s Theme: The Sign of His Grace
Word for the Week is Commands: Demands made of His people, or obligations laid upon His people, by God. Scripture stresses that being the people of God involves responsibilities as well as privileges and sets out the demands which God justly makes of His people
Memory verse Psalms 33:9 (NKJV) For He spoke, and it was [done;] He commanded, and it stood fast.
Sermon Focus: Jesus works on behalf of all who come to Him.
Sermon Passage: John 4:46-54
46 So Jesus came again to Cana of Galilee where He had made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman whose son was sick at Capernaum.
47 When he heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and implored Him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death.
48 Then Jesus said to him, “Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will by no means believe.”
49 The nobleman said to Him, “Sir, come down before my child dies!”
50 Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your son lives.” So the man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and he went his way.
51 And as he was now going down, his servants met him and told him, saying, “Your son lives!”
52 Then he inquired of them the hour when he got better. And they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.”
53 So the father knew that it was at the same hour in which Jesus said to him, “Your son lives.” And he himself believed, and his whole household.
54 This again is the second sign Jesus did when He had come out of Judea into Galilee.
(PROPOSITION) Even in our most desperate moments, we can come to Jesus and find grace to transform our trials into testimonies for His glory.
Through this passage, we can learn that Jesus is aware of our difficulties; He is willing to meet our needs when we sincerely go to Him for help.
SEEK JESUS
passionately in their trials and invites them to step into a relationship filled with hope and redemption.
This passage illustrates a poignant moment where a desperate father seeks help from Jesus, showcasing the profound theme of vulnerability and the intersection of faith and human need. The royal official's journey from a place of despair to a transformed life symbolizes the hope that comes from turning to Christ in our times of struggle, bringing to light the importance of divine intervention in our personal crises.
I. COME DESPERATE
I. COME DESPERATE
(KNOWING THAT NO ONE ELSE CAN DO WHAT HE DOES)
46 So Jesus came again to Cana of Galilee where He had made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman whose son was sick at Capernaum.
The distance between Cana of Galilee and Capernaum is approximately 30-31 kilometers (about 18-19 miles), which would take about six to nine hours to travel on foot[1].
47 When he heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and implored Him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death.
HE HEARD
23 Now when He was in Jerusalem at the Passover, during the feast, many believed in His name when they saw the signs which He did.
ALTHOUGH HE WAS A NOBLEMAN
ALTHOUGH HE MIGHT HAVE BEEN A ROYAL OFFICIAL
HE WAS
Not too Big to Bow
Not too High to Humble
Not too Grand to Give
Not too Sovereign to Serve
EVEN WHEN JESUS CALLED HIM OUT AND SAID IN VERSE 48
48 Then Jesus said to him, “Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will by no means believe.”
ALLOW YOUR PROBLEMS TO LEAD YOU TO THE PROBLEM-SOLVER
ALLOW YOUR DESPERATION TO LEAD YOU TO THE DELIVERER
ALLOW YOUR CHALLENGES TO LEAD YOU TO CHRIST
ALLOW YOUR PREDICAMENT TO LEAD YOU TO PROPHET
ALLOW YOUR TROUBLE TO LEAD YOU TO TRUTH

DILEMMA / DEFENDER
BECAUSE HE CAN RESTORE WHAT THE LOCUST HAVE EATEN
HE CAN HEAL YOUR HEARTACHE
PATCH YOUR PAIN
MEND YOUR MISFORTURNES
ALLEVIATE YOUR ADVERSITY
CURE YOUR CIRCUMSTANCES
HARDSHIP
HE DIDN’T COME CONDEMNING OR CRITICIZE
HE DIDN’T COME BRAGING OR BOAST
HE DIDN’T COME GRUMBLING OR GOSSIP
COME TO HIM DESPERATE
II. COME DEPENDENT
II. COME DEPENDENT
(NO QUESTIONS)
49 The nobleman said to Him, “Sir, come down before my child dies!”
50 Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your son lives.” So the man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and he went his way.
Perhaps focus on the dialogue between Jesus and the official, where authority and faith intersect.
Jesus' word alone is enough to bring assurance of healing.
LOOK AT THE POWER OF JESUS’ PROMISES
YOU CAN FIND COMFORT AND ASSURANCE IN HIS WORDS
TRUST IN THE WORDS OF JESUS
10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
TRUST IN HIS WORD
III. COME DUTIFUL
III. COME DUTIFUL
