Lord I’m willing to crush false Idols

the cost of idolatry is the works of the flesh as fruit you produce

we created our own idols - we threw our gold and it became a calf

rememberence is our greatest tool

we try to make idols to fit a God sized holes

we create idols thinking we’re doing it in Gods honor

We’re on week two of our series “Lord, I’m willing” and we’re talking about the readiness, the eagerness, the fire drive and passion to say God I want your plans. Make us willing. How willingness is the attitude in which we obey. Being willing to pour into our walk with God to be intentional with him, to sacrifice comfort of talking to new people, to sacrifice maybe even sleep to read dilligently, pray dilligently.

Today if you’re taking notes our title is “Lord I’m willing to crush false idols.”

Who knows what a false idol is? (Ask)

Yes, some of us say a false idol is a different God or statue that you would worship. Like this guy (3 Pics false idols)

this doesn’t seem super relatable ok lets get some relatable ones. (Phone, money, influencers, sex)

Do not be decieved into thinking false idols don’t exist in your life because you’re not blatantly bowing down to a golden statue or have a shrine of someone in your room because

(Slide) false idols are anything and anyone that capture our heart’s affection instead of God.

It’s our hearts clinging and confiding in that which does not or cannot bring us peace or security. It is the elevation and glorification of anything other than God, which eventually leads to personal emptiness and separation from true life.

Let me show you a short passage of some people in the bible that had an issue like this lets turn to exodus 32;

Exodus 32:1–8 “When the people saw that Moses was so long in coming down from the mountain, they gathered around Aaron and said, “Come, make us gods who will go before us. As for this fellow Moses who brought us up out of Egypt, we don’t know what has happened to him.” Aaron answered them, “Take off the gold earrings that your wives, your sons and your daughters are wearing, and bring them to me.” So all the people took off their earrings and brought them to Aaron. He took what they handed him and made it into an idol cast in the shape of a calf, fashioning it with a tool. Then they said, “These are your gods, Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt.” When Aaron saw this, he built an altar in front of the calf and announced, “Tomorrow there will be a festival to the Lord.” So the next day the people rose early and sacrificed burnt offerings and presented fellowship offerings. Afterward they sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in revelry. Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go down, because…”

So for some context, the people of israel just got led out of slavery and by the hand of God through moses he split the sea so they could escape. A few weeks later their asking for something new.

Here’s what we can learn from these guys:

We throw our Gold in hopes of feeling better

The first part of this story they ask aaron, moses brother, to make something for them. He asks for their gold jewlery and they freely gave it to him. They took off their possesions and made the calf. Think about it they took off expensive, valuable items, not even just from themselves but from their children, their spouses. Meaning it was costly.
