John 10:1-21. Jesus the door, The good Shepard. (a critique of the bad shepherds)
Last week in chapter 9 Jesus healed the man born blind – but called the seeing people blind.
Jesus continuing to explain why they are blind, Jesus will no use a story/ a picture, but the people will not understand as it says in verse 6.
(John uses the contrasts and will also do it in this passage. Light darkness, death life, hired hand true Shepard, door to life, salvation).
1-6) Amen, Amen. Jesus uses a figure of speech, that if someone finds a way in to the sheep, but dose not use the entrance, that man is a thief and a robber. (That would be normal to think that way, if you own the sheep you don’t have to find a different way that the entrance).
2) The shepherd used the door, and it is open to him by the gatekeeper.
3) The sheep hear his voice, and the calls his own sheep by name and leadsthem out, and when they are all out, he goes before them and the sheep followhim for, they know his voice.
5) they will not follow a stranger, but flee form him because they don’t know the voice of strangers.
6) they don’t understand what Jesus spoke about. So, he will use other figures of speech.
Jesus speaks and the sheep her his voice, he calls them by name, that is how well Jesus knows them, Jesus leads out, and the sheep follow because they know Jesus’ voice. (to true life in Christ, salvation).
The blind and the robbers and thief bad shearpards hired hands, will not listen or hear or follow. (They are not known by Jesus by name, and will not be lead by him, and don’t know his voice).
7) Jesus uses another picture – I am the door of the sheep,
8) Jesus is saying that all that came before him was thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. (That claimed to be Christ and give salvation). And that the sheep rejected them.
9) Jesus restated I am the door. And now what happened if people enter the door, he will be savedand go out and find pasture. (Life (eternal) in found in Jesus as the door). (The way to God, salvation, only by Jesus can we get to God, and only by his body (the cross) can we get salvation).
10) The thief comes to steal and kill and destroy, - Jesus said that is not me, I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. Extraordinary /beyond. Quality of Normal life. (As it is meant to be with God, as the one worshiped via Jesus, by the Holy Spiry)
11) Jesus says he is the good shepherd, and explains what the he will do, that he will lay down his life for the sheep, - the opposite of the hired hand in 12) that flee when the wolf comes, and leaves the sheep defenseless, and lets the wolf kill and scatter the flock. 13) he does that because he does not care about the sheep, (might be a hint at the Pharisees, that they are hired hands working for their own glory and don’t care about the sheep, they did not care about the bind man, or the many people believing in John the Baptist and Jesus the other nations and the Sarmatians). Not caring, leads to not loving and serving.
Good and bad shepherd movie from Zacariah, + jer, ezek
14) Jesus restates he is the good shepherd, - and that he knows his own and the his own know him, linking it with the way Jesus knows the Father, and the Father knows Jesus; and then the statement that I lay down my life for the sheep, (his own).
16) Jesus saying that he has other sheep, that comes from another fold, (gentiles non-Israelites) they will listen and he will bring them, and there will be one flock, and one shepherd. One way to God and one way of salvation. By the good shepherd – that is God, and the one expected the messiah/ the Christ the anointed one. (The truly Good shepherd). (Jesus calming to be God, that when kings and leaders fail to lead the people, God comes to lead his people). Therefore, Jesus said: that God send him, with a mission, to do his fathers will. That Jesus the true good shepherd, - God leading his people to back to God.
17) Jesus say that is why the Father loves him – because Jesus will lay down his life, and that he may take it up again. 18) no one takes Jesus’ life he lays it down, and has authority to take it up again. (The father has given Jesus this “commandment/task”).
Okay How will the people respond, he called them blind, said he is the good shepherdthat is to come and that he is going to lay down his life for the sheep, and gather even none Jews in to one flock one people of God, and this is the command that he has gotten form God.
Well, it is ether true or a lie… (what did Jesus’ life look like, his teaching and his words, ether he is the good shepherd and he is the one that lie down his life Zac, or he is a false teacher, what did his life and teaching say, - the signs, the teaching).
19) there is a division among the Jews again, - 20) He has a demon and insane don’t listen to him. 21) Others no this is not words of someone that has a demon – and can a demon open the eyes of the blind?
What do you believe about Jesus is he your good shepherd? Does he know you by name, and lead you to salvation, to life abundant eternal? – Do you trust he laid down his life for your sin, that you might be, set free? Have you entered the door? Jesus?
If you have I pray you have or will do it. What can you praise God for? He holiness, his display of love in sending Jesus, - What can you praise Jesus for? And the Holy Spirt? Comfort power in Christ to live for God in this world, thrusting that the good shepherd Jesus will lead us by his Holy Spirt, to his praise and Gods glory.
