Jesus enhanced His preaching with parables, but most preachers today do not. This lack may contribute to the failure of much modern preaching. That there is such a failure is apparent—even to preachers themselves. When teaching in the doctoral homiletics program at Westminster Seminary in California, I often asked ministers what they thought of today’s preaching. Their answers were always strongly negative.
