Hebrews Chapter 6

Review
Going On Unto Perfection
6:1-2 The writer begins to name doctrines that they consider foundational.
Builders don’t stop building once the foundation is complete.
Why is the word “therefore” there for.
The end of Chapter 5 tells us.
If we remain in these foundational teachings we will remain baby Christians.
Many Churches have never moved beyond the foundational principles.
6:3 We should anticipate going beyond the principles of The Doctrines of Christ.
The level of maturity that the writer wants us to obtain to is understanding our righteousness through Christ.
Justification through faith and not works or Grace.
You Can Not Be Born Again, Again
6:4-6 Many have taken these next few verses to claim that we can lose our salvation.
This is not speaking of a backsliding Christian but rather someone who has rejected their salvation after being born again.
However, even that is met with 5 qualifiers that must have been met before one can legally reject their salvation.
Once Enlightened
Had tasted of the heavenly gift
Partook in the baptism of the Holy Ghost
Tasted the good word of God
And the powers of the world to come
Someone who has met those qualifiers can reject their salvation because they would have been a spiritually mature individual.
Similar to why a child shouldn’t be allowed to choose what gender they want to be or to be a furry whatever that is.
An immature Christian is not allowed to reject their salvation.
And a mature Christian who has met the qualifications is not likely to.
The Main point being made here is that because it is impossible for someone to lose their salvation it is not something that need to teach mature Christian or even baby Christians.
Once someone is born again they need to be discipled.
Good and Corrupt Ground
6:7-8 Ground that produces fruit is blessed of God. However, ground that does not produce even after receiving the things necessary to produce is considered cursed.
Again this is speaking of mature vs. immature Christians.
Our ground is going to produce what is in our hearts.
Our standing with God is based on our faith not our actions
However, our actions are an indication of what we believe and for this reason we cannot divorce our faith from our actions..
see Matt 13.
Quit Preaching Basic and Elementary Doctrines of Christ
6:9 Paul was not writing this because he thought they were reprobates or in danger of becoming such.
Paul’s goal was to encourage the readers to develop their spirits and grow up in the things of God.
They did not need to be continuously saved as that was done once.
Heb 9:12; 10:10, 14.
They needed to move from salvation to inheritance.
God Remembers Our Good and Forgets Our Sin
6:10 The author was quite certain that God was not keeping track of our sins but absolutely does remember our good.
Many people teach, though they cannot provide evidence, that God is keeping track of our bad and sins.
This flies directly in the face of the New Testament. Heb 8:12.
Even David wrote that our sins are cast as far as east from the west. Psalms 103:12.
God is a righteous God and remembers our good works and every act of love that we do once we are born again.
He takes notice of the ministry that we are ministering to the saints.
If we are going to picture God taking account, then we should be picturing Him writing down our good deeds not our bad ones.
Even something as little as a cup of cold water. Matt 10:42.
6:11-12 The authors desire was that they would remain diligent.
He was asking the readers to keep up the good works they had been doing with the same fervor so they would remain strong till the end.
The phrase full assurance means entire confidence.
Hebrews 10:35 tells us that our confidence has great reward with it.
They were also warned about slothfulness or lazy Christianity.
Many Christians are lazy when it comes to believing God.
If what we are believing for does not happen soon we give.
But it is through faith and patience (enduring faith) that we inherit the promises of God.
