Kings, Kingdoms, and the Promised Land (W. 1) - Joshua 6

Notes:
The spies in Numbers 13:27-29 testified that the land was beautiful, but the people were massive and the cities were fortified and very large.
Caleb wanted to go occupy it.
Numbers 14:7-9. There protection is removed from them, and the LORD Is with us; do not fear them.
Tell of Caleb’s faith in the sermon for sure. Caleb was certain. While the others were fearful of the giants in the land.
I wonder if Joshua was quoting Numbers 14:11-12
Numbers 14:11–12 ESV
11 And the Lord said to Moses, “How long will this people despise me? And how long will they not believe in me, in spite of all the signs that I have done among them? 12 I will strike them with the pestilence and disinherit them, and I will make of you a nation greater and mightier than they.”
Numbers 14:20-25. I think Joshua was saying, “Please remember that you said, I’d be here.”

How does God win the victory?

(1) An Unlikely Strategy

Worship was the War Room

Joshua 5:13-16.
This isn’t the first time Joshua has heard the voice of God.
He heard it in Exodus 23:20-23. Exodus 24:13, Exodus 33:11, and Joshua 1:1, 3:7.

God Promises Victory

God Calls Him to Participate.

God wanted Joshua to understand that He alone could give this victory.
Jericho was not yet starved. Jericho’s walls were not broken down on their own strength.
Think about this for a second man, how easy could it be for the people to march around the city for a day or two, and then either get discouraged or get busy trying to come up with a better way.
Listen, friends, whether we realize it or not, our default as humans is to believe that we’ve got a better plan than God does.

This is why surrender is greater than sacrifice.

(2) An Unlikely People

God is going to use Joshua.
God is going to rescue Rahab.
