We were made to know God

Ice breaker guess the voice. (at most 10 mins)
how many of you knew exactly who was talking?
when you knew who was talking was it easy to know who they were because you know their voice?
for those who believe we live with the power to hear and fully understand the voice of God.
It’s one thing to know about God. It’s a completely different thing to fully know him.
Pray
what does this mean? It means we can come to church, we can come to youth group. we can stand and raise our hands in worship, sing the songs, learn about his goodness, and still STILL not have a personal relationship with him.
God wants such a deep personal relationship with you. This is why we were made. we were made to live fully in relationship with God.
to know him.
let me ask you guys this. what do you guys find yourselves thinking about most of the time?
for me it’s “oh man what am I going to do if i have to get out of the military. How do I provide for my family? how do I make money? Is Tua Tangovialoa really the QB the Miami Dolphins need to win a Championship?
It’s easy to think about all the things going on in our lives and rarely thing about God. to think about who he is and to mediate on the mighty things he’s done for all of us.
Did you know WE ARE ALL GOD THINKS ABOUT. All day every day we’re the only thing that consumes his thoughts.
I think King David said it best we he wrote this.
Psalm 139:17–18 NLT
How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!
your thoughts about me outnumber the grains of sand.
do you realize how much that is.
like grains of sand. think about the dirt outside, the ground, the desert, the beaches, and every sand trap on every golf course that I seem to always find myself in.
THATS A LOT OF SAND!!!!
did you know Scientist estimate that there are at least 1.8 billion. everybody say billion. there are 1 billion grains of sand in 1 cubic foot of earth.
**motion 1 cubic foot**
1 cubic foot. 1 billion grains of sand. each representing a moment that God thinks about us and 1 cubic foot isn’t even a fraction of the dust on this earth.
to Know God we have to come to a place in our heart where we desire to think on Him.
To know God we have to become familiar with him. It’s way more than learning the history of Him. It’s about the desire to be in relationship with him. To know him so deeply we can literally hear his voice.
that in the midst of the chaos in our lives we hear him and we know beyond a doubt it’s him speaking to us.
Can you self this. If God was speaking to you right now would know it was Him? are you familiar enough with him to know the sound of his voice.
I want to tell a story about one of the most notable prophets in all the bible.
Tell a little about Samuel and how he ended up in the temple.
1 Samuel 3:1–10 NLT
Meanwhile, the boy Samuel served the Lord by assisting Eli. Now in those days messages from the Lord were very rare, and visions were quite uncommon. One night Eli, who was almost blind by now, had gone to bed. The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was sleeping in the Tabernacle near the Ark of God. Suddenly the Lord called out, “Samuel!” “Yes?” Samuel replied. “What is it?” He got up and ran to Eli. “Here I am. Did you call me?” “I didn’t call you,” Eli replied. “Go back to bed.” So he did. Then the Lord called out again, “Samuel!” Again Samuel got up and went to Eli. “Here I am. Did you call me?” “I didn’t call you, my son,” Eli said. “Go back to bed.” Samuel did not yet know the Lord because he had never had a message from the Lord before. So the Lord called a third time, and once more Samuel got up and went to Eli. “Here I am. Did you call me?” Then Eli realized it was the Lord who was calling the boy. So he said to Samuel, “Go and lie down again, and if someone calls again, say, ‘Speak, Lord, your servant is listening.’ ” So Samuel went back to bed. And the Lord came and called as before, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel replied, “Speak, your servant is listening.”
See Samuel from the time he was a little boy grew up in the temple. he grew up learning day in and day out the word, day in and day out about the history, day in and day out about the works, day in and day out ABOUT God but till this moment never KNEW God. He didn’t know HIS VOICE.
Guys a time is coming. a time is coming that Jesus will return to reign and rule over this earth. The bible teaches us that toward the end time we’ll see many teachers and prophets that claim they’re doing the works of the lord but they are liars and deceivers and an instrument of the Devil himself.
Don’t believe me look at what happened to Judas. Judas you know the disciple that betrayed Jesus. Judas went to the best Church, had the best small group in the history of the world. Judas had the very best Pastor you could have ever wanted and yet when push came to shove he still didn’t know Jesus for who he really was. Judas is the very proof that you can go to the best church and still become the Devil.
It’s so important that we do the things we have to do to build a relationship with Chirist. To better know him. To hear his voice. To pray for the ability to see through the wickedness and lies.
So how do we get there.
we have to stop just being christ like on Sundays!!!
how many of us are like this. we’re casual Christians. we come to church. we learn a few things. we get into binds and pray things like God if you get me out of this situation I swear I’ll never do this again.
We get into such a place of complacency leaning on the assumption that if I just call my self a christian I’m good to go. Like whenever we get into trouble all we have to do is recite something like Philippians 4:13
Philippians 4:13 NLT
For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.
and we’re good. See God’s got me. And yet the bible also teaches us that on the day of judgment we can stand in front of God with a highlight reel of all the good things we’ve done and he respond to you “depart from me I never knew you”
Family God wants soo much more for us than that.
when we get to a place in our lives, when we’ve gotten into a personal relationship with Jesus our lives will completely transform. anxieties gone, fear gone, worry gone, stress about the future gone. our wants, our desires will become his wants and desires. because he knows you and you know him
We’ll know him soo deeply that His will for us will consume you in a way that we he speaks you wont have a choice but to respond to him “ Speak lord, your servant is listening.
Pray.
