I know we normally do communion at the end of service..
But I felt the lord directed me to change it up this morning and do it first..
and before we partake of communion I want to talk about one of the reason we take communion.
and that is that it brings unity in the body..
because it reminds us of the common thread that runs through us all..
Jesus and his sacrifice..
So we take communion.. and we have Common, Unity..
Last Few weeks.
Wednesday night I told the church that over the last couple of weeks since encounter their has been a lot of chaos going on..
The enemy, upset by what god is doing, has causes a lot of confusion and chaos..
many many many have been sick..
and people have been out of sorts..
and so we called the church to pray that God would break those attacks and tie us together in unity..
because more than anything the enemy wants to sow confusion and division..
he knows a house divided cannot stand..
but as scripture teaches..
where there is unity.. anything is possible..
unity brings great power..
Paul
Paul writes to many churches about unity..
1 Corinthians 1:10 ESV
I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment.
Philippians 2:2 ESV
complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind.
Galatians 3:28 ESV
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
1 Corinthians 12:12 ESV
For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.
Peter joins this urge in 1 peter as well..
1 Peter 3:8 ESV
Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind.
Unity is vital to the body..
Unity is the body being in sync with itself..
in one mind..
having a common goal..
pursuing the same direction.
.. We know that unity is powerful..
Power
in genesis 11:6 we see god tells us the power of unity..
Genesis 11:6 ESV
And the Lord said, “Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language, and this is only the beginning of what they will do. And nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them.
Of course those he was speaking of where those at the tower of babal..
and they were pursuing evil against the lord..
but in the new testament we find the same thing in those unified torward gods purpose..
Acts 2:1 ESV
When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place.
and many times through acts we see how the church was unified together..
and many were saved..
and the church grew and expanded globaly..
GOD WANTS TO DO SOMETHING GREAT IN OUR MIDST..
BUT ITS GOING TO TAKE US STAYING IN UNITY AND ONE MIND..
HOW DO WE DO THAT?
We keep ourselves focus on and act like jesus..
Jesus said in John 17:23
John 17:22–23 ESV
The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.
If we will keep ourselves focused on Jesus.. and we walk in sync with Jesus..
we will walk together in unity..
and so today we take communion with this is mind..
that he is the common unity we have together..

Communion

1 Corinthians 11:23–25 ESV
For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.”
