19 Now therefore

Why are we lonely?

Strangers in our world

Hebrews 11.13

13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them,

Our own heart is a mystery

Jeremiah 17.9

Alienation from God

Ephesians 2:11-12

11 Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands; 12 That at that time ye were

God is concerned with every isolating experience

For every reason of isolation, there is an answer from God

God is not ashamed to be called their God

Hebrews 11.13-16

13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. 14 For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country. 15 And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. 16 But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly:

God knows the Heart

Jeremiah 17.9-10

9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? 10

He knows you better than you know yourself
He wants to know what you respond to

Ephesians 2 - No More a Stranger

We once were strangers

Ephesians 2.11-12

11 Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands; 12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:

Jesus made the difference

The blood of Jesus

Ephesians 2.13

13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are

The Spirit of Jesus

Ephesians 2.14-18

14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath

No more strangers

Ephesians 2.19-22

19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; 20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; 21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: 22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

Citizenship - fellow citizens with the saints
Family - household of God
Building - fitted into the construct
Community - builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit

If you feel like you don’t belong in the promises of God

Spiritual development often has a component of isolation, but it results in closer connection to the body. Paul spent 3 years in the desert of Arabia and Damascus, then Jerusalem after 3 years.
In seasons of spiritual development, the promise is still, “I will never leave you or forsake you” - He 13.5

God Cares about the Isolation Experience

God started the whole kingdom with sojourners

Genesis 15.12-14

12 And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo, an horror of great darkness fell upon him. 13 And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years; 14 And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance.

He gives the lonely a family

Psalm 68.6

6 God setteth the solitary in families: he bringeth out those which are bound with chains: but the rebellious dwell in a dry land.
