Luke 6:46–49 ESV
“Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you? Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. But the one who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.”
Whenever I have put something together weather it be with legos or these magnetic toys when I was younger I would have trouble keeping it together or standing up because the foundation was unstable. There was so much unneeded movement within the structure and this is the idea in which Jesus is talking about within this passage we see that he is talking about the House being built on the Rock this is not Peter in which he mentions in another part of the Scripture but when it comes to this He is talking about something very different. There are three aspects of the passage where it shows first that people most come to Him, second hearing the words of the Lord, and lastly doing everything that He has told us to do so through this aspect we see an important aspect of why we most have a strong Foundation to what we are building our faith on.

Foundation in Christ Lordship

Luke 6:46 ESV
“Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you?
Luke: An Introduction and Commentary 7. Foundations (6:46–49)

To call anyone ‘Lord’ is to admit that allegiance is owed. To repeat the address is to put a certain emphasis on the admission. But words are no substitute for obedience.

The New Bible Commentary 6:12–49 The Teaching of Jesus to His Disciples

The person who hears and obeys will be as secure on the day of judgment as the person who takes care to build a house with strong foundations on rock.

Foundation in Gods Words

Luke 6:47–48 ESV
Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built.
Luke D. The Teaching to Follow: Identifying the Blessed (6:17–49)

6:46–49. Put all this teaching together, and what do you get? You get the definition of a hypocrite—a person who says with the mouth that Jesus is Lord and Master of life, then never listens to Jesus, never obeys Jesus. You also get the definition of a disciple—a person who listens to every word Jesus says and then puts those words into practice in daily living.

Luke: An Introduction and Commentary 7. Foundations (6:46–49)

To call anyone ‘Lord’ is to admit that allegiance is owed. To repeat the address is to put a certain emphasis on the admission. But words are no substitute for obedience.
