Introduction
Mark 16:16 “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.”
John 3:36 “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”
The Rich Man dead, buried and still alive! This man did not love God, no, he loved himself. Our eternal destiny’s are based on our love for God and the object of our faith. Jesus must be the object of our faith. Our destiny is fixed at death and will never be changed.
The Rich Man Tells the True Tale of Suffering (vv.23-26)
His senses are heightened. His pain intensified. His thirst unbearable. He was now in a place of no water. There was no relief, no moment of ease it was an eternal suffering. It has the sense of going to the bottom. This man is being tortured severely. These are acute pains, and is a torture or torment of strong force. This word is used to describe the rack or instrument of torture by which one is forced to divulge the truth.
The Rich Man Tells the True Tale of Separation (v.26)
The great gulf fixed. No traffic moves between heaven and hell. What keeps a lost person in hell? This great gulf! What keeps a saved person in heaven? This great gulf!
Isaiah 53:5 “But he was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: The chastisement of our peace was upon him; And with his stripes we are healed.”
The Rich Man Tells the True Tale of Supplications (vv.28-30)
His memory was awakened. His five brothers were lost and their lives would be wasted. A heartfelt supplication of no use. In hell supplications go unanswered and unfulfilled.
Luke 24:27 “And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.”
The Rich Man Tells the True Tale of Sadness (v.31)
There is a sadness here. Our hearts should break. All eternity lost!
