Title of the Message this Morning is:
" GIVE ME”
Pastors note:
Have you seen advertising-on television when someone is trying to sell you something, and at the end of the commercial you will see small print with the therms and conditions.
That’s how I feelWhen talking about money-knowing that some people are Leary.
As a pastor talking about money in the day in which we live Is a very touchy subject.
In our lifetime we have scene people being taken advantage of because they are trying to get money out of the people’s pocket and put money into there pockets.
Money in our society Is connected with-power and wealth.
And in some cases the more money people have, the more they are able to effect the lives of everyday people like you and I. So
So let me be clear, Faith Vision Christian Ministries is a place where we Train disciples-to go into the world-to preach the gospel.
In other words we are a training ground for all things Jesus Christ.
The money that you give to Faith Vision-goes to the monthly obligations to keep the ministry available for Informational platforms that reach people around the world.
No money goes to the pastor unless it is designated for him.
As a pastor I teach what the word of God has to say.
Jesus talks about money more than anything else in His ministry
Everything in the Bible is important for you to know what it says.
So let’s finish this sermon series on “Money Talks”
Big Idea -
God is calling Christ-followers to steward their resources, and part of that stewardship is the act of generosity.
Generosity is the only antidote to potential greed and the worship of money, regardless of your income level.
Prayer –
“God, I could never out give You! Thank you for generously supplying all my needs and inviting me into the joy of giving to share what You have provided with others.
You do not need my money, but You want my heart, and where my treasure is, there my heart will be also.
So, I choose to put You first in my finances, by giving to advance the name of Jesus, not my own name.
Forgive me for the ways I have worshiped money more than I have worshiped You.
Forgive me for the ways I have sought credit for my gifts, seeking the approval of others, when You are the source of every good gift.
I humbly repent and ask for your help as I seek You first in all areas of my life.
I choose to trust You and surrender all I have to You.”
Scripture – 2 Corinthians 9:6-15, Malachi 3:10, 1 John 4:18
Introduction
Introduction
(Opening illustration)
In 1913, Dayton, OH experienced the greatest natural disaster in Ohio history.
In March of that year, a series of severe winter rain storms hit the Midwest.
Within three days, 8–11 inches of rain fell throughout the Great Miami River watershed on already saturated soil, resulting in more than 90 percent runoff.
The river and its tributaries overflowed.
The existing levees failed, and downtown Dayton was flooded up to 20 feet deep.
By comparison, the volume of water that passed through the river channel during this storm equals the monthly flow over Niagara Falls. Approximately $100 million worth of property was damaged and 360 lives were lost.
The people of Dayton were determined to prevent a flood like that from ever happening again.
The governor appointed people to the Dayton Citizens Relief Commission, and in May 1913, the commission conducted a 10-day fundraiser, collecting more than $2 million (in 1913 dollars) to fund the flood control effort.
The result was the construction of the Miami Conservancy District’s flood control system, which has prevented flooding in this area more than 1,500 times since its completion.[1]
When water has no place to go, it can be destructive.
It continues to accumulate and rise, and with nowhere to go, it floods homes and businesses and can take lives.
But water can also be life-giving.
When it is allowed to overflow and run off as it goes, water can provide nutrients for growing crops, feeding livestock, and producing life and fruit.
Water needs to overflow in healthy ways.
Our money is much the same.
Just as a lot of water can be used to produce life or destroy it, so can money.
When money is worshiped it becomes blocked up and hoarded, resulting in greed.
But when we allow it to overflow where it is needed, the result of that generosity is fruit and life and growth.
When money is not allowed to go anywhere, it can result in damage to our own hearts and a withholding of blessing from others.
The amazing thing is when money is allowed to overflow in healthy ways, just like flood waters, there is always more than enough.
This is what the practice of giving does in comparison to worshipping money.
This is a crucial topic and why we saved it for last in our week 4 Money Talks series:
The world’s money says, “Worship Me.” God’s money says, “Give Me.”
Main Teaching/Body
Main Teaching/Body
In 2 Corinthians 9:6-15, Paul is writing to the church in Corinth to encourage them to give generously as they have promised.
Paul then sends Titus and several others to collect their offering for those in need, saying:
“Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.
Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
As it is written: “They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever.”
Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness.
You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.
This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God.
Because of the service by which
you have proved yourselves, others will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else.
And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you, because of the surpassing grace God has given you. Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!”
It starts with Gratitude
It starts with Gratitude
If you want to worship God instead of money and enter into this journey of overflowing generosity, the best place to start is with gratitude.
You have to let gratitude well up in your heart.
Gratitude is a form of worshiping God.
Focusing on our stuff, or the lack thereof, is also a form of worship—a form of worshiping material wealth.
That’s why gratitude is so powerful.
It breaks the power of negativity and selfishness.
2 Corinthians 9:8 says, “And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”
Thank God for your job and His financial provision,
Giving is a major act of trust
Giving is a major act of trust
God has blessed each of us abundantly and supplied our needs.
If we are going to overflow with generosity, we have to start with giving thanks.
Next, we give God our trust.
Giving is a major act of trust.
It is saying, God, I trust you more than the amount of money in my bank account.
Many Christians say “Yes” to trusting Jesus Christ in every area of their lives, except with their money.
It’s like this final holdout.
God, I trust you as my Lord and Savior, but I need to keep control of my money.
It’s one of the most common areas where we try to hold back.
If we can trust God as our Savior, if we believe God is good and faithful and true, then we can trust God when He says giving is good.
Malachi 3:10 says, “‘Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,’ says the Lord Almighty, ‘and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.’”
A tithe simply means one tenth.
It’s also to be the first one tenth that is set apart, belonging to God.
It is about putting God first.
We worship God with our first and our best and trust Him to bless the rest!
When you let gratitude fill up your life is you begin to open your heart to be generous in all areas.
When we share our financial blessings, our generosity overflows and blesses others who can in turn bless others.
Plan your Generosity
Plan your Generosity
As you give it a place to go, it’s important to plan your generosity.
That is why it is important to plan.
Once you have a budget, automate the important parts of your plan.
Set your giving to come out of your paycheck first, followed by saving and essential living expenses.
When you make your priorities the priority, your life stays in order.
Look at what you gave last year, and figure out what percentage that is of your income, and increase it.
Second Corinthians 9:7 says, “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
Conclusion
Conclusion
Pick a percentage of your income and faithfully start there, but then see if you can grow it a little every year.
Do not wait until you have more money.
The more you make, the harder that money becomes to part with.
But in order to trust God with your finances, you could start with giving back to advance God’s Kingdom first.
Spend some time asking God what He would have you do.
Remember, money Talks, it can either say “worship me” or “give me.”
When you give, you are helping break the bonds of greed and materialism that say “worship me.”
“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear…” (1 John 4:18).
Let God’s love empower you and drive you as you worship God by giving generously.
I would like to take a moment to say-thank you to all who give to this ministry.
I watched-some of our monthly givers Increased there giving each year.
When our church first started, some members only gave $5 each Sunday.
Remember! you are giving to enlarge God’s Kingdom, not man Kingdom
Thank You!
Let’s pray together.
Salvation:
Salvation:
The Word of God says in: John 3:16
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
If you’d would like to receive Jesus today, please pray this prayer with all of us:
Lord I believe that Jesus is the Son of God, and that He died On the cross for my sins and His resurrection from the dead gives me eternal life. I ask forgiveness of my sins, and I accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior. Amen.
