David – 1 Samuel 17

Biblical Point: David was willing to do what no one else(not even the king) was willing to do. In the face of a giant, David relied upon God and how God had equipped him to defeat Goliath.

Moments when all that has come before directs what happens next!!!

            How had God Equipped Him?

                        Staff (17:40), Sling, Stones from the Brook?

                        What about the Armor of bronze and Sword? – (17:38-39)

            God equipped David – Heart

                        1 Samuel 13:14  God rejected Saul and chose a man after His own heart

                                    1 Samuel 16:11-13, David anointed – God looks upon the heart vv. 7

                        David had the Heart of a Shepherd – Psalm 23 – Who knew his Shepherd

                        God forged David

1 Samuel 16:18-21 – was skillful playing music, man of courage, wise speech, and of good presence.

                                    1 Samuel 17:34-36 – Faced Lions and Bears – Slew them

                                                Yet knew it was the Lord that delivered them into his hand

                                                            Humility and trust

Conviction that coming against Gods people is a greater reason for God to give the victory than for coming for David’s sheep.

Argument – From Greater to lesser

            Romans 8:31-39

31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? 33 Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 36 As it is written,

                  “For your sake we are being killed all the day long;

      we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”

37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Application Point: Teens need to be willing to fight back and do hard things for God. They can have an impact right wherever God has placed them with whatever God has equipped them with.
